Meet Marie Lafranque of Marie Lafranque Photography in Los Feliz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marie Lafranque.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Becoming a mother, changed not only my personal life but my life as a photographer. Once initiated to the wonders of childhood, I couldn’t get enough of it. I began taking photo after photo with my old, little, half broken, phone… my friends kept on telling me what a great eye I had… and the rest is history. I picked up a “real” camera and haven’t put it down since. I am a self-taught artist in most art forms (my paintings had been in many a gallery before I became a mom) and this art form was not any different for me.

What I love about photography is that just as with any other art, you can keep on learning all through the years… the work is never done!

I have been photographing families in LA for the past 4 years and I absolutely love it! From maternity and birth to a wedding day, I follow each family through their important moments.

Has it been a smooth road?
I think as with every artistic endeavor there can be the “blank page” syndrome. That sense of having an artistic vision that isn’t coming to life quite the way you envisioned it.

My styled shoots are always so much fun but push me to that next limit, and that’s what makes them so much fun. My next styled shoot is going to be an exclusive Carousel Horse session and finding the perfect dresses to go with it and the perfect location has been a work in progress. I’m also planning an Alice in Wonderland Session and looking for all the props for it has been fun but also something that I need to work very hard at, a few of them I’m going to have to make myself because no-one has quite what I’ve envisioned in my mind.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Marie Lafranque Photography – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
As a photographer, I specialize mostly in family sessions. I do love shooting weddings and events, but my absolute favorite thing to do is to photograph families and their connection. From maternity and birth to family portraits and smash the cake sessions all of those little moments are amazing to me.

I think what makes me the proudest is the fact that families trust me with keeping their memories of them throughout the years. I have families who entrusted me with their maternity and birth shoot and years later I continue being their photographer and that feels very special. I adore each and every one of those children and am so grateful to their parents for allowing me that special place in the family.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Los Angeles is heaven to me. There is never anything that you cannot get here, from urban backgrounds that are so much fun to photograph, to the beach and amazing hikes everywhere, this is the perfect city for a photographer. There isn’t a single thing I dislike about living here. Not even the traffic! We love audiobooks in our family, so traffic actually works in our favor!
