Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariana de Cordoba.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Mariana. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in Colombia and raised in Europe. Throughout my entire childhood, I was part of theater and dancing programs. Although I have a BFA and Design Degree; acting has always been my passion. I worked in colombian television for many year with an overall dozen of successful telenovelas and American remakes (El Capo, Mental, KDABRA, Tres Caines, Greys Anatomy) films and as a tv host.
After getting diagnosed and successfully beaten Uterus Cancer in 2013 I started a campaign with the Health Department of Colombia and the World Health Organization called « Que Vivan Las Mujeres ». Mainly addressing misinformation and preventive vaccination.
In 2016, I moved to Los Angeles to continue my acting studies (Studio4, Lee Strasberg, Groundlings, and Scott Sedita Studio) and expand my career in the American market. My first appearance was on a multi-awarded short “Someday” by Director JS Mayan and pretty soon on the big screen.
In 2018, I started to collaborate with long time friend and latinamerican photographer Alvaro Nates on a new line of eco-friendly, sustainable neoprene bags made for a new generation that not just wants to help with the environment, but also spreads awareness on endangered species. MarBags will be coming to platforms this fall.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest struggle was to adapt in LA. To be able to neutralize the American accent while also being able to do other accents in English (Southern, British, Russian). I think I’m lucky I have a good ear and I already speak English, Spanish, French and Italian; but it’s still hard to go full American.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
We created MarBags with the idea of creating a super cool, colorful, oversized bag where you can put anything and everything! We also knew that we wanted a sustainable eco-friendly material because it’s our responsibility to maintain Earth alive. On top of that we’re big animal fans, so we decided to create awareness towards all the endangered species that we were fascinated with; such as the Fennec Fox, White Tiger, Rhinos, and Axolotl to name a few.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m planning on staying in the States and continue with my acting career as well as developing my personal ideas. MarBags will only be an amuse bouche for what’s coming.
