Meet Maki Welton of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maki Welton.

Hi Maki, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It all started with one production company that believed in me—SickBird Productions. They first discovered me through social media shortly after I was featured in a Wall Street Journal article. They reached out to collaborate on a bubble photo shoot, and from the moment I stepped on set, I knew I had found something special.

That first shoot led to more opportunities with them, including a Fortnite/VS Sports campaign. Then came a dating reality show called Love Locked on TheShadeRoom, which gave me a whole new level of exposure. From there, I found myself doing viral YouTube shows, which eventually landed me on the game show You Bet Your Life. But even as things were growing on camera, I wanted more—I wanted to understand what went on behind the scenes.

I started working in the industry in small but meaningful ways—first as a CBS Page, then as a production assistant. Those experiences opened doors for me to step into creative roles where I could pitch ideas, help shape stories, and learn from some of the best in the business.

Simultaneously, I was growing my own platform, building a digital presence by sharing content centered around relationships, family, and lifestyle. That realness began to resonate with people. Over time, I’ve had the opportunity to work with brands like Amazon, McDonald’s, and Complex, and I’m currently filming with shows like Basketball Wives—a full-circle moment I never saw coming.

My journey has been anything but traditional, but I’ve always had a deep passion for storytelling—whether that’s through acting, creating content, or just making people feel something real. Every step has shaped me, and I’m still evolving. But at the heart of it all, I’m just someone who wants to connect, uplift, and leave a meaningful imprint wherever I go.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This industry can be incredibly rewarding, but it’s also cutthroat. While there are plenty of genuine, kind-hearted people, there’s also no shortage of those who operate out of ego, self-interest, and manipulation. One of the biggest struggles I’ve faced is dealing with false promises—people smiling in your face while working a different angle behind your back. I’ve learned the hard way that some folks will only be around you for what you can give them, not who you are.

It can be draining when you’re taken advantage of, especially when your intentions are pure and your work ethic is strong. But I believe in karma—and that what you put out always comes back around. I’ve had to grow a tougher skin, trust my intuition, and learn how to protect my energy, but it’s made me smarter and more grounded. I don’t let the negativity break me; I let it shape me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work spans across entertainment, digital media, and creative production. I’m a content creator, host, and on-camera talent who’s been fortunate enough to work with brands like Amazon, McDonald’s, and Complex. I specialize in storytelling—whether that’s through lifestyle content, relationship-based videos, or just finding creative ways to connect with people emotionally and authentically. I also work behind the scenes in television production, having held roles at networks like CBS, which has given me a deeper understanding of how this industry really works from both sides of the lens.

What I’m most proud of is my ability to build something real without cutting corners. I come from a famous family, but don’t have to use them to build my own legacy. I built my name off of consistency, authenticity, and hustle. I’m especially proud of how I’ve grown my platform in a way that feels true to who I am, while also creating opportunities for others.

What sets me apart is that I don’t just chase trends—I build community. I care about representation, I care about energy, and I care about impact. Whether I’m on a set, in a pitch meeting, or creating a piece of content for my followers, I lead with heart and honesty. That’s what people connect with—and that’s what keeps me going.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
One thing I’ve learned -and live by- is to treat everyone with respect, no matter their title. This industry moves fast, and roles change overnight. That PA you’re brushing off today could be your executive producer tomorrow. I believe in starting from a genuine place, building from the ground up, and keeping your integrity intact along the way.

I’ve worked hard to create a strong circle of people I trust, but I also believe in staying open and collaborative. You never know where your next opportunity or lesson will come from. The goal isn’t just to succeed, but to succeed with purpose and leave doors open for others as you climb.
