Meet Lori Goldman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Goldman.

Hi Lori, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am from Pittsburgh, PA. I moved to Los Angeles with the dreams of working in the entertainment business and worked in casting for tv and commercials for eight years. While I had been planning and throwing parties for friends and family for a decade, taking on the role of bride took my party crafting skills to the next level. It was not until I became a stay-at-home mom that I thought about working from home and giving my passion a go. So in 2015, I created my party and home entertaining blog, Pop of Gold. It’s where my hand-picked favorite products meet handmade crafts for fun and fancy parties. I love taking things from around the house and upcycling them into fun party decor, cruising the internet to find the most fabulous pieces and hunting through stores for chic crafts. On my blog, I work with brands on showcasing their products in the home entertaining and home party niche.

Two years ago, I started selling handmade crayons on Etsy. They make for fabulous personalized gifts for kids! They also make for great party favors! Last year I started to include resin letters, and now resin coasters. All great gift ideas for the upcoming holidays. My newest venture that I’m most proud of is that I created my own book! It’s called “entertaining with pop of gold” and is available on Amazon. The book includes tips and tricks for home entertaining and parties. I have ideas that go through the entire year, starting with Valentine’s day and ending at New Year’s Eve. I would say this book is for anyone who loves to entertain and loves looking at photos for inspiration. It includes a few easy recipes and DIYs as well. I’ve been lucky enough to be featured in many issues of Entertain & Celebrate magazine, Mingle magazine and Women’s World magazine. As well as featured product photos on Target.com and Potterybarn.com.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a creative, my initial wants and instincts is that I just want to create pretty things. Haha. What you don’t realize is that you also need to learn how to create a website, and how to make money in this niche, and how to grow a following on social media. So there ends up being a lot more to it that you first think. I’m not tech-savvy, so there had to be a learning curve there. Also, when I first started selling on Etsy, seven years ago, I made paper party banners and cupcake toppers. Well now, they are out of style, so you need to know when to pivot and change your products. Right now, my handmade name crayons are a more popular item to create.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m most proud of the book I just launched, “entertaining with pop of gold”, available on Amazon. It had been a dream of mine to have my own coffee table book on entertaining for years and years. It took a while to create and I’m just so happy with how it turned out. This book is for anyone that loves entertaining and hosting parties! Lots of tips on how to elevate entertaining while doing so affordably and with ease! There are ideas on holiday parties, and baby showers, as well as some simple recipes and DIYs.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice for those starting out is to trust your gut. I’ve realized that trusting my gut has given me more confidence in myself and my creative outlet over the years. Also know that growing success will take time, but if what you do is your passion, then you never feel like your “work” is a tedious task. You just love what you do and keep doing it.
