Meet LeeAnn Weintraub of Nutrition Counseling & Consulting in Culver City and Encino

Today we’d like to introduce you to LeeAnn Weintraub.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN). I completed a Bachelor’s of Science at James Madison University (Virginia) and a Master’s in Public Health at UCLA. After completing my dietetic internship and passing the exam required to obtain my RDN credentials, my first job as a dietitian was working with people with kidney failure on dialysis. I loved my job, but knew that I wanted to embrace my entrepreneurial side and work for myself. In 2009, I started my private practice, which at the time felt like a big jump into the unknown, but ended up being the best career move ever. Now, in addition to helping my clients manage illness and improve their health with food and nutrition, I consult with non-profits and businesses, write the nutrition column for the LA Daily News, lecture on important nutrition and health topics, and work with the media. Every day is different, challenging and often a lot of fun.

Has it been a smooth road?
I started my practice at the height of the Great Recession, which taught me to be patient and economical. Working in health care today is constantly a challenge because the science, policies and resources are continuously changing and there is just so much work to be done. Since opening my doors I’ve gotten married and had two children, which meant learning the real struggle of work-life balance. I know that the life experience that comes with being a parent has made me a better dietitian and overall a more empathetic and understanding person.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I provide nutrition counseling and consulting services throughout the Los Angeles area and beyond. I practice evidence-based medical nutrition therapy so no trendy fad diets or quick-fix gimmicks here. A big part of my job is keeping up with nutrition science and research and being in-the-know about everything “Food”. My clients are both children and adults and while some are focused on wellness and developing a healthier lifestyle, others are managing disease with a special diet. Some of my specialty areas include diabetes, kidney disease, plant-based eating, and prenatal nutrition. I pride myself in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures to provide individualized nutrition advice that is non-judgmental, motivational and goal-oriented.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is a health-conscious city, but also on the cutting edge when it comes to food. Living and practicing in LA has led to so many amazing professional opportunities for me that wouldn’t be possible in a smaller, less diverse, less prosperous city or a place where healthy living is not valued and appreciated.
