Meet LaChanda Gatson

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaChanda Gatson.

LaChanda, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 1996 I became a professional hairstylist in in Clarksville Tennessee. I moved to Atlanta in 2002 expanded my creative and artistic expression. I worked in competitive salons surrounded with inspiration. It was there that I started competed in hair shows,  competitions, worked award shows, and introduced to  celebrity hairstyling. While in Atlanta I was also pursuing a degree in Interior Design. My career took me to Los Angeles 2016 where I’m actively working as an HMUA in film and editorial.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not always. Each time I relocated states I basically had to start over. Trying to convince complete strangers to take a chance on me was definitely not an easy task. The building process is never fun, but so worth it.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I specializes in all hair types and textures. Styling avant-garde hairstyles is my favorite thing to do. I also love cutting and styling short hair, natural hair styling, and creating wigs for television and film.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is when a plan is flawlessly executed. If I could have fun along the way it’s even better.
