Meet Konstantin Strokin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Konstantin Strokin.

Hi Konstantin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Started tattooing while still in Russia at the military academy. 11-12 years old three months later I was expelled from the university for doing tattoos. Having arrived home, he opened his studio, but this was not enough. Then the capital, then the cities of Europe… After 8-9 years, I confidently developed in my business. Then I got an offer from an employer in Los Angeles. And here is the 3rd year I am a resident in LA.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The path was clearly not smooth as in any business, perseverance and self-confidence helped. In many countries, it is difficult to start a tattoo business… It has long remained a shadow or penumbra business in many countries. It is impossible to get a loan to open a studio, the usual red tape with visas and life on suitcases are the main difficulties.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Basically, the feature of my work is freehand. For each client, I draw a sketch on the body that will never be repeated. I love very dark motifs, a lot of black, I love non-standard surreal art. I do not like to work with other people’s pictures and photographs. Few people can draw anything out of their heads at the request of the client, but I can bring any crazy idea to life.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I am usually inspired by travel, new cities, games, series…any new visual content that enriches the imagination. I love the work of Japanese animators Paprika, Reinforced Concrete. Also fantastic books they develop the imagination.
