Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Burge.
Julia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My whole adult life was centered around making a name for myself in my Corporate Career. I worked hard, I took on stretch assignments. I networked. I grew in my career until one day the growing halted, not because of anything I could have controlled but because the company was going through an acquisition. When a business isn’t your own, you don’t get to determine it’s trajectory. After the acquisition was completed and after my husband and I welcomed two babies into the world, the layoffs started to come. First in small waves, then in the thousands. My department knew that we would be unsafe. I then set my mind on something that I could create on my own while still working my full-time job (because in Los Angeles we definitely needed the income) but that also would not take away from my kids. I turned to Blogging which a lot of millennial moms have done as of late.
My blog Organizing Motherhood grew in success, I created content, marketed my posts, coded my own site, monitored my own analytics and managed my own social media. This led me to being recognized as a Top 30 Millennial Mommy Blogger by Freedspot a publication that promotes and highlights different blogging categories. However, the blog did not bring in the revenue that I had anticipated. My affiliate links generated anywhere between $11 – $25 dollars a month, for the amount of work I was putting into this side business the results were quite dire.
In October of 2017, a co-worker of mine that I admired very much approached me with a business opportunity. It was in the social marketing/social selling category. Honestly, I didn’t know much about this category because in my corporate world, most people had their eye on the prize of climbing the ladder and tended to shy away from anything entrepreneurial. Although I said no to my co-worker a few times, she finally convinced me to give the social selling world a try by promoting it through my blog. I did just that. The first post I created in relation to the new side business went viral. In a matter of 24 hours, I had 75 offers from companies that wanted to work with me, send me on travel, have me review their products, etc. In the back of my mind, I knew that the real opportunity was not in creating more content but to take this social selling business and run with it.
The products that we promote are non-toxic, vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free, and leaping bunny approved hair-care and skin-care. By leveraging my social media and cultivating relationships with people online, I was quickly able to grow my business to a very profitable side venture. The company also rewards its affiliates with free vacations, paid for luxury cars and so much more. We are a culture of gratitude and the entire company is fueled by giving back to our communities. In my two years with the company working as my own independent boss I have grown a team of over 500, we are all over the US, UK and Canada. The business has also just expanded into Ireland and Poland which opens up a whole new market segment for us to build.
It is something I never saw myself doing until I was actually in it!
Fast forward to today. I was officially given my outsourcing notice two months ago, because of the income I was able to generate from my phone in my spare time through this social selling company I am now able to devote my future to doing exactly what I want to do, without the desperation of having to take a position that I am not passionate about. And that I would say is my biggest achievement.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always struggles along the way, in the space of social selling the biggest struggle is what people will think of you. Immediately I received criticism from friends and especially from family.
However, as I saw what the company was able to provide for my family I was able to tune out my critics. I have saved more in my kid’s bank accounts in two years than I ever would have been able to working in my corporate job. My two years old son already has two stamps in his passport and that will only grow with each passing year. My team is filled with moms, working women, men and fellow entrepreneurs that have had life-changing moments occur because of this business.
No matter what struggles I face from now on, I only have one outlook ahead and that is to help as many people as I can create the life of their dreams, free of debt, free of financial burdens and free of the anxiety of the unknown.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Monat – Shampoo Crew – what should we know?
The products that we promote are non-toxic, vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free, and leaping bunny approved hair-care and skin-care. We are able to design our businesses in our own ways. Some people leverage social media, some people work vendor events, and some people do word of mouth networking. The beauty of this business is that we are in full control.
Monat the company that I am a part of started in 2014, they quickly grew in popularity and just surpassed the 1 Billion Dollar mark in cumulative revenue. We have been recognized as the fastest-growing social selling company in the industry and just this year, our 5th year are officially the number one selling hair-care brand in the World in terms of sales. This is massive when you think of who our competitors are. The skin-care segment was just launched in September of this year and select items have already been sold our, surpassing the 2019 sales projections.
It is an amazing company to be a part of especially during this incredible time of growth.
My team specifically is made up of so many different types of men and women with one passion and one goal, to make their lives better. I adore every single person on my team and my greatest achievement is helping them reach their goals.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
This is an equal opportunity business, it’s funny people always ask me am I good at this business because I am social. All I can do is laugh at that question because I am a huge introvert. I shy away from social situations and like to be behind the scenes. However, that is the beauty of this business it doesn’t matter if you are social or you are not social selling is for anyone and everyone. The only requirements are to recommend a product or a service that you love, the same way we recommend great movies, a phenomenal restaurant or the perfect shoes.
Pricing:
- If this business interests you the start up costs can be quite low for $199 you get $324 worth of products to use or sell, nothing more to buy ever! No monthly minimums, no quotas, no sales requirements
- Our most expensive product pack comes with the full line of both hair-care and skin-care products and that costs $799, which gets you $1873 worth of products.
