Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua David Smith.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started out as a model in Boston, MA and attended a talent showcase in New York for acting & modeling and received callbacks with Commercial and Print Agents in LA back in 2015.
I flew out to Los Angeles and ended up by chance bumping into a guy in the hallways of CESD’s building and he happened to be a TV/Film talent manager. We chatted a bit and come to find out he and I were both from the same home town in Peabody Massachusetts. He told me normally I don’t take on green actors but because you’re from Peabody and I’m from Peabody we gotta help each to her out! He signed me on the spot and I moved out to LA a week later on November 7th 2015 to pursue acting. It took me a long time to get to where I’m at today, but I’m finally a full time Commercial & TV/Film actor.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Wasn’t the easiest road. I endured a lot of no’s at auditions but never gave up. Also it was tough giving up my side jobs in retail, catering and driving for uber eats to pursue acting full time. But taking that leap of faith and not relying on the side job safety net forced me to get super focused on finding acting work and improving my skills. And since quitting those jobs I’ve been full time as an actor.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an actor. My most recent film I starred in was called A Boyfriend to Die for on Lifetime Movie Network. I play the character Liam on that film. I’m most proud of a movie I acted in called Sierra Hwy which was a thriller noir film by Bill Boatman, the release date on that is TBA. What sets me apart is my ability to hop in and out of commercials and tv / film projects. A lot of people get stuck in one category but I’m able to navigate through those 3 areas quite seamlessly.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I used to play an instrument called a Euphonium back in Highschool. And I also was semi fluent in sign language back then too.
