Today we’d like to introduce you to Joel Baker.
Joel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, always having an interest in moving to California for the prized weather and beautiful sunsets. Life was good and simple, but I wanted to experience something new and be around more like-minded people. After college I made the move to LA and have been amazed by the diversity of the people and abundance of opportunity. I began writing music and started my apparel brand, Baker Made Limited, out of Del Rey, Los Angeles. It was here in LA that I was able to make my artistic goals come true.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My biggest struggle in Los Angeles has been working too much and not enjoying the beaches and social opportunities enough. I moved here for the weather and beaches, and though I take advantage of both, there is so much opportunity in the city I try not to get lost in the rat race!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
Baker Made’s mission is to showcase the designs of autonomous artists through high-quality apparel. We are known for bringing on unique artists to our brand in order to create one-of-a-kind products that stand out amongst the crowd. At Baker Made, we are most proud of bringing attention to our first artist, Elle Kitsos, and sharing her designs with the world. We are very excited to announce that we have a limited one-of-one trucker hat line releasing on March 4 from our newest artist Stine AF! We will offer free shipping to anyone who uses the code “THISISBAKERMADE” at check-out!
What does success mean to you?
I define success with happiness and fulfillment rather than money. I would consider myself very successful because I have a large network with friends involved in many different things – sailing, music, art, festivals, traveling, etc. I’ve found a lot of success in Los Angeles because I have been able to perform shows as a saxophonist, race sailboats to Mexico, promote artists through my apparel brand, and work full-time in sports contemporaneously. It’s a beautiful thing.
