Meet Joanna Diimes of Constructed For Women | CFW

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanna Diimes.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Joanna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I always knew I wanted to be a designer either for myself or for someone else. At the time I started, I was really fascinated with mens streetwear and I was heavily inspired by Supreme and what they were doing so I just starting making women versions of 1 of 1’s with their supreme waistbands. I was making track pants, swimsuits, biker shorts, literally anything I wanted or could make. At first, I just wanted to see if I could make these pieces and I’d post about it on my socials, some people loved it and started to ask me if they could purchase. I eventually made a website and just kept it going from there.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t always been smooth, still isn’t. I have some structure and time now to give my all into CFW but everything I’ve designed is made by me so in the very beginning it was me waking up by 5/6am, working(sewing) on orders, going to work, if I needed any supplies/fabric, I’d go during my lunch since the fabric district was literally couple streets away, got what I needed and once I got home, I’d sew some more and ship in the morning. At the same time, I was going through legal situations that took most of my earnings but I didn’t really care at the time because it honestly helped me so much and forced me to discipline myself and to NEVER go through that again.

Constructed For Women | CFW – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I really want the culture of CFW to feel like a breath of fresh air in the fashion industry. We create what we want when it feels right. It gives an inspiring, empowering feeling with whatever we release. I’m very proud of CFW not being confined to one particular look but is welcoming to all types of women. ALSO, very very proud to mainly work with other women creatives in any way possible. From my previous work background, I’ve dabbled in almost every department which is the reason how I can play every role in CFW now, I am my own production team at the moment, from graphics, styling, photoshoots, customer service, pretty much everything still. I’m surely but slowly trying to find someone to become part of CFW to assist me as well as finding a good production company to get more CFW into the world.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment so far is Dolls Kill carrying CFW. I’ve never worked so hard in my life to get that order done. Once it was completed and on their web-store, I felt so empowered! I’m ready for more! Lol
