Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesus Dominguez.
Hi Jesus, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started pursuing my passion in film/creating in my Jr. year of high school. I was immediately obsessed with creating videos particularly editing. I quickly decided that was going to be the career I wanted to pursue and went to college and got my BA in Film & Video Production in 2012. I wasted no time after graduating and started looking for opportunities to get in the industry. In 2013 I made the move to Los Angeles where my career really started to blossom in the coming years. My first gig was with Dick Clark Productions as an editor for a youtube mini-series leading up to the VMA’s. I then got the biggest opportunity of my life to apply to the iconic brand of Playboy where I have now been for more than 8 years. I now own my own startup digital media agency DOM. I share my skills and knowledge with others who are in need of content of any kind for their business or social media platforms.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road is never smooth, I have had many struggles on this journey. The first year I got to LA, I had to undergo surgery to remove my appendix as an emergency. With no family support around me during that time I had to mentally and physically be strong to be able to go back to work and continue pursuing this mission I was on for my career. I have also had many rejections throughout my journey but those have only made me a better person. I wouldn’t be here today without those struggles.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a content creator, I specialize in Photography, Video, Editing and Aerial media. I’m most proud of starting my own media agency DOM. I love that I can be as creative as I want to be with my clients. They trust and know I will deliver great quality content for them. I believe that being consistent and always improving, getting better at my craft is what separates me from so many. Ambition is a choice, either you are or you’re not.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
The best advice I can give someone that is just starting out, is to be patient with your work. Keep on practicing and doing whatever it is you do. You will eventually get better over time. Before I started, I wish I knew that being good at networking and meeting others within your industry is such a big help, especially If they are better at it than you. That will push you to grow and learn.
