Meet Jenna Nelson of JKNELSON&CO

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna Nelson

Hi Jenna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up surrounded by animals; from birds and bunnies to frogs, dogs and cats. When I got into high school I started pet sitting on the side while pursuing a career in acting and continued to do so into my mid 20s. Once I got into my late 20s I began to question where I wanted to go next with a job, if I wanted to keep doing the 9-5 and what would it take to leave the one I was at, but before I could find an answer COVID hit. COVID presented me with more time to sit and reflect and I eventually decided I wanted to create a dog walking and pet sitting company of my own. I built up my website, took CPR and First Aid Certification classes, and became insured through the pet sitters association. I let my clients know I was going be doing dog walking and pet sitting full time and as everything opened back up built more and more momentum and clientele and as they say the rest is history. It has been four years and I am super grateful I made the decision to do dog walking and pet sitting.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road, in my first year I did the amateur move of taking on way too many clients than I could handle which resulted in more money spent than made and lack of the luxury service I provide today. That is the greatest piece of advice I’d give anyone starting out any business, do not take on more than you can handle. It is okay to say no to job opportunities, saying no actually opens to the solid clientele list you are looking for. While the road has had rocky moments, I am grateful for them because they have helped shape the type of clientele and area I want to cover.

We’ve been impressed with JKNELSON&CO, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Hello Voyage Readers,

My name is Jenna Nelson and I am the owner of JKNELSON&CO; a Woodland Hills based dog walking and pet sitting company. The services I provide are dog walking, check in sessions and over night sits. I cover Encino to Lake Sherwood and Malibu to Porter Ranch. What sets me a part is that I do not have any employees and mainly do it on my own with the help of my boyfriend. Im proud to say with four years now of hard work and commitment JKNELSON&CO has expanded from sitting for my next door neighbors dog in Woodland Hills to covering a large base of the community,

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
The most important thing to me is that I’ve achieved many of the goals I set before me because it shows I can achieve anything I put my mind to. I’ve grown so much personally and business wise in the past four years and still have so much to learn. In the past the unknown would have scared me, but now it excites me. I look forward what the future has in store for me in regards to my personal life and my career.
