Meet Ivan Salanueva of Barber Embassy in Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ivan Salanueva.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a second-generation barber, I was born and raised in Mexico City.

I come from an extended family of barbers. Growing up watching my Dad and uncles doing magic with scissors, clippers, shaving brushes, soap, straight razors and after shaves. At age of 18, I decided to follow the same steps. After working for my Dad in his barber shop for several years, in 2008 I decided to move to Los Angeles, go to Barber school, learn new techniques, get a state license and start doing what I love.

I worked at a few different shops, but I knew that wasn’t enough for me. I came to the USA for a reason: to have my own business and offer my” fans” other than just a 10 minutes haircut. I wanted to do something different and unique, so that’s how I came up with Barber Embassy.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been too hard, I just had to work long hours and 6 to 7 days a week. It took me years to save up money and find the right place to make my dream come true.

Barber Embassy – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Barber Embassy delivers upscale men grooming experiences and specializes in scissor cuts and old school hot towel shaves. Haircuts include shampoo, treatment conditioner, tailored cut and style, shave around the edges and a hot towel finish. Shaves start with pre-shave oil, hot lather, one to three hot towels, shave with a straight razor, cold towel to close the pores and finish with after- shave balm. We are known for our great customer service and awesome haircuts. We are proud of bringing the old school barber atmosphere back. Offering quality and personalized services with almost 15 years’ experience is what sets us apart.

Success is not about making money, it’s all about doing what makes you happy.
