Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerald Hendricks.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My entire life, I have been infatuated with design. It’s a part of everything we possess or desire, so design always intrigued me. Specifically, the ergonomics of objects and how they fit into our everyday lives. Once I graduated from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, I began working for small startups helping with branding and marketing for a few years. Then I worked out of Chicago with startups and corporations in the automotive and electronics industry. Recently I’ve joined forces with my Aunt, and longtime financial advisor, Rugina Hendricks at Hendricks Accounting. Here, we offer a different dynamic for new and small businesses. With 25+ years in bookkeeping and 5+ years in online marketing, we provide creative business solutions for growing companies.
Has it been a smooth road?
Life is never a smooth road. What’s joy without pain, right? The biggest obstacle I’ve faced was living in Paris for a year without knowing a lick of French. I got off the plane in France with my friend Harrison, but without a place to live and no plan. I said to Harrison, “It will be easy for us to find a place to live.” I was truly wrong. We hopped from hostel to hotel, back and forth, for weeks. Only to view inner-city flats with French speaking agents hesitant of us as tenants. We saw much of the city in the first few weeks, but we weren’t site seeing for sure. It was more like survival. Finally we decided on a place in the suburb of Saint Cyr, walking distance from Chateau de Versailles. After settling in, the best year of my life followed. It worked out because we were able to see more of the city and some surrounding cities. I love Paris, the culture, the people. And, at the end of my stay, I was able to understand French and at least order a coffee for myself. Looking back on it, I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I have a passion for design, I love to work in 2D and 3D. Lately, most of my projects are two dimensional, whether it’s graphics, motion, or digital editing. I’m mostly known for the fashion exhibits I’ve had in my hometown. What sets me apart from others are my skills in online marketing. Specifically, Facebook marketing since it hasn’t existed for more than ten years. I offer creative media content for ads, along with the knowledge on how to make advertising convert sales.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
As technology advances, so will the tools we use to consume goods/services. I expect a big leap in virtual and augmented marketing. Some examples are already in the works such as VR online shopping for fashion, decor, real estate, and automotive test drives. I see these becoming the norm in the future.
