Today we’d like to introduce you to Gleici Rufatto.
Hi Gleici, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a Brazilian artist based in Los Angeles, working across painting and photography. My work started through photography, especially documenting architecture, light, and color in everyday spaces. Over time, I became more interested in abstraction and in how color itself could create atmosphere and emotion, which naturally led me toward painting.
Living in Los Angeles strongly shaped my visual language. The city’s light, geometric architecture, concrete textures, and quiet moments continue to influence both my paintings and photographs. Even in more abstract works, there is usually a connection to real places, fragments, or memories.
Today my process moves between photography, painting, and video, with each medium naturally influencing the other.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like many artists, one of the biggest challenges has been learning how to keep creating consistently while also navigating the practical side of building a career. Moving to a new country and building connections from scratch was also a big adjustment.
Another challenge has been staying connected to my own voice in a world that moves very fast and constantly pushes artists to compare themselves or follow trends. A lot of my work is rooted in quietness, observation, and slower moments, so learning to trust that direction has been important for me.
I also work across different mediums, including photography, painting, and video, and for a long time I struggled with feeling like I had to choose only one path. Over time, I realized those mediums actually strengthen each other and are all part of the same visual language.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a multidisciplinary artist working across painting and photography, with a practice centered around color, abstraction, texture, and architectural influence. My work often explores how color can function almost like atmosphere or memory, using minimal compositions and subtle shifts in form to create emotional presence.
A large part of my inspiration comes from Los Angeles, especially its light, geometry, concrete surfaces, and quiet visual moments found in everyday spaces. Even when the work becomes abstract, there is usually a connection to real places, fragments, or observations translated into a more minimal visual language.
I think what sets my work apart is the way photography and painting naturally influence each other. Sometimes photographs become the starting point for paintings, while painting has also changed the way I observe and frame the world through photography. Rather than treating them as separate practices, I see them as part of the same visual language.
One thing I’m especially proud of is developing a body of work that feels consistent and personal while continuing to evolve over time.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
The best way to stay connected is through my website and social platforms, where I regularly share new work, exhibitions, and ongoing projects. I’m also always open to thoughtful collaborations, especially with interior designers, architects, galleries, brands, and creative projects that connect naturally with my visual language and interest in color, atmosphere, and space.
