Meet Felix Nguyen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Felix Nguyen.

Felix, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Boise, Idaho. Growing up, I had a passion for two things: creating videos and sports. I loved to play basketball, it was my first passion. I would remember staying up late past my bedtime to watch highlights of Kobe Bryant and the Lakers, then heading into the driveway to emulate what I just saw. The love for basketball turned into me creating highlight videos of certain players on Youtube. As my Youtube started to get some engagement, I started making more videos similar to that of NigaHiga and KevJumba, however, that wouldn’t last long. Basketball started to pick up and content creation started to fade off. However, once I got to college, the void of basketball left something empty within me.

Slowly, I turned back into creating content. A couple of friends and I started exploring Los Angeles during my freshman year and we would create digital content such as pictures and videos. This led to me this summer working for many small businesses around Los Angeles and Boise, creating content for their social media accounts. These connections allowed me to bolster my portfolio and to learn much more about the creative industry. Following that summer, I did some work for real estate companies and other small businesses off and on, solely focusing on school and my major in Finance. However, with the start of senior year and the ensuing pandemic, I wanted to make my impact on the community creatively.

I recently created a short film showing my view on Black Lives Matter. I have also been working with many creatives and celebrities around Los Angeles, such as Slimmy B, Da Boii, and Prettyboy Matts, taking pictures and videos for them. In the future, I plan on releasing another short film, working with other celebrities such as Tee Grizzley, and Youtube Series called “In the Cut”, showcasing the behind the scenes of my work and the memorable moments surrounding it.

Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road whatsoever. While the struggles haven’t been external, most of them have been internal. I tend to contemplate what I want to do in life. Those late-night thoughts of failure and success tend to tear me apart inside. Obviously, I want to do whatever I can for my family but at times, I wonder if this is the right route for me. I recently came to realized that this is what I want to do for the future and there is no plan B.

Alright – so let’s talk business.  What else should we know about you and your career so far?
I am a photographer and videographer. I have been shooting pictures of many celebrities and have been making some short films relating to the condition of our society. For the future, I plan on releasing a Youtube series showcasing the BTS of my work and hopefully be able to create more content and collaborations with other creatives in LA. I believe what sets me apart from others is my authenticity and passion for this line of work. I truly love creating and I love to work and connect with other creatives that share the same passion as me.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is the mecca for content creators like me. The different backdrops and scenes available in this city are amazing and the opportunities are boundless. For someone starting out, I would definitely recommend them starting out here not only because of the diverse options but with the other creatives around here as well. It is such a great place to meet others with the same passion and skill as you.
