Meet Emily Wang

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Wang.

Hi Emily, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I started taking photos of my dogs and sharing them on Instagram in 2014. I was in college at the time and found photography and photo editing to be a fun hobby for my spare time. After graduating, I started working at an advertising agency, while continuing to share photos and content on social media. Eventually, my hobby and career intersected, and since then I’ve been in the world of storytelling through digital content, both photo, and video.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Generally, it’s been a pretty positive and rewarding experience for me. Along the way, one of the challenges that came up were learning new formats of storytelling. Video became really big shortly after I started sharing content to Instagram, so learning how to concept, shoot, edit, and produce video was a nice challenge for me.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I got into photography and video through shooting content with my dogs, so now I specialize in shooting mostly pet content. I really love taking photos that capture some whimsical energy or adding some edits to tell a deeper story. I also like shooting very clean, bright, and minimal shots that allow the viewer to focus on the subject (cute dogs) in the content.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Thankfully because my work is shared on social media, I’ve been able to network a lot with like-minded artists and content creators through Instagram. My advice would be to utilize the social network for what it’s for and don’t be afraid to send a DM or write a comment on someone’s post! A lot of those interactions that started off initially as a quick conversation on social media have led to opportunities and friendships for me in the long run.
