Meet Elin Khachikian

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elin Khachikian.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I like to say I’m an artist by nature. I’ve been doodling and drawing for as long as I can remember. Art has always been my favorite form of self expression, it’s always come to be so organically. I always knew I was going to be involved in the arts one way or another. Working professionally as a designer allows me to bring in that creativity into my daily work.

Please tell us about your art.
A lot of my artwork these days is digital. I love to draw using Adobe Illustrator or Procreate. My art isn’t always about one thing. I think the best way to describe it would be that I work in series. Every once in a while I’ll be inspired by something I will create a handful of works that relate to each other, to get that creativity out and then I’ll move on to something else. However, I think a lot of my work has always consistently had a very minimalist look. I like to take complex ideas and strip away all the details while still communicating that initial idea with minimal shape and color. It started out as a personal challenge, and slowly took over as my main style.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
I think the biggest challenge, is getting organic exposure through social media. I started putting my artwork on social media platforms, and organic growth has been a bit difficult. There are so many talented artists out there, that unless you’re looking for a very specific niche, you might not be able to discover a new artist.
