Meet Dr. Robby Gordon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Robby Gordon.

Dr. Gordon, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started doing art when I was about eight years old–however, I pursued my career as veterinarian and then in the financial planning and mortgage business. After the financial crisis of 2008, I downsized my businesses and I devoted myself full-time to the arts. I had a dream of creating my house as a gallery and have a sculpture garden around it. It took two years to find the house of my dreams, which had a lot of requirements and especially on a very large lot. I started putting my own sculptures in the Hollywood Sculpture Garden, and then slowly other sculptors, when they heard about it, they contacted me. Now in The Hollywood Sculpture Garden there are more than a hundred sculptures created by more than 60 different sculptors from all over the world (Italy, France, Chile, Argentina, Belgium, Mexico, among others). The sculpture garden is a place where I let others sculptors come and create their own sculptures or come and show their own creations since the place is set up as a gallery.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was step-by-step growth and the I always had my goal but I wasn’t attached to materializing it right away. I accepted everything with ease, without giving it any meaning, which made me free to create whatever I want without being bound to any results. My life philosophy is what helped me to achieve what I want and by now, the Hollywood Sculpture Garden is a well-known entity in LA and all over the world.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I started at the age of eight doing woodwork and I like to dabble in every kind of art. Mainly I paint with acrylic paint, but I’ve also done ceramic, glass, metal, sculpture, and designed my own furniture and redesigned my house to become The Hollywood Gallery. The Hollywood Sculpture Garden and The Hollywood Sculpture Gallery hosts events like weddings, private parties, fashion shows, and it’s also a film location…

I’m known for my paintings and for creating a special atmosphere for sculptors and artists to perform here. I help them achieve their dreams to exhibit their own work or by coming to create it here in the Hollywood Sculpture Garden.

I am most proud of my own personal achievements: being able to raise two wonderful children, giving them good values in life, caring about other people, and helping the world one person at a time. I was also happy to be able to develop my artistic talents and to weave them into my everyday life.

What sets me apart is that I fulfilled my dream and I created a place for artists to express their creativity and to show their sculptures up in the Hollywood Hills on the way to the Hollywood Sign.

I also create an apparel line which includes painting on every kind of garment: ties ,vests. shirts, jackets, suits, dresses, hats and more.
I usually create ties with a matching paintings so both are hung on the wall and a person can wear the tie and then put it back on the wall for decorations.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I am proud that during COVID, it was one of the few venues in LA opened to public because all the works are outside. I would have 30-50 people coming a day, scheduling visitors every hour, and they were able to social distance and be safe and see art. During Covid, people got engaged here and had small special events.
