Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Allison Adams.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Dr. Allison. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I knew that I wanted to work in the healthcare field from an early age. As a competitive athlete growing up, I had my fair share of injuries and saw many different doctors and physical therapists for my injuries. It wasn’t until I was 18 years old when I developed migraines that I began to learn more about Chiropractic after western medicine had failed me. Under regular Chiropractic care for six months, I finally got the relief that I had been searching for through the chiropractic adjustment. I was finally migraine free for the first time in almost two years. That was the turning point that transformed my life and when I decided that I wanted to become a Chiropractor so that I could help others in a more holistic approach.
I received a bachelors degree in Human Biology and then went on to pursue a Doctorate of Chiropractic degree. After graduation, I always knew that I wanted to open up my own practice. I wanted to create a space where healing could occur from within and help patients find natural solutions to their problems without turning to drugs or surgery as the first preferred method of care. When it comes to healing the body, we should always look towards conservative natural healthcare first before turning to more invasive methods.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There were definitely some challenges in the beginning. I think time management was the biggest. I am a one-woman show which means I wear many different hats. From balancing being a business owner, doing administrative work, marketing, scheduling and treating patients. It took some time to figure out and every day in the beginning brought on new challenges, but I think I’ve finally learned how to balance it all and still have some personal time for self-care. I absolutely love what I do and enjoy coming to work everyday. When my patients tell me that they are finally experiencing relief of pain for the first time in years, it makes all the behind the scenes struggles worth it!
Please tell us about ChiroLife Family Wellness.
ChiroLife Family Wellness was a vision that I had while I was still in school. I wanted to create an office that all ages could come to for healing. In the beginning, I was treating primarily athletes, dancers and trainers. As my office has continued to expand, I now serve a large population of prenatal/postpartum patients and pediatrics which is very exciting. Becoming a BIRTHFIT Professional provider has really helped me expand my reach to this community. Majority of my patients have been through referrals, which the best compliment I could receive.
I think what sets me apart from other chiropractors is that I use a “whole person approach” when taking care of my patients. This wellness approach is the path to looking for the underlying origin of disturbance which may be causing symptoms. Through specific chiropractic adjustments, along with the use of physiotherapy, and the newest vitamin and mineral supplements I make sure to customize care to fit the individual needs of each patient.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wouldn’t change a thing! I think that everything happens for a reason and that we get to where we are through life experiences, hard work and a little trial and error.
