Today we’d like to introduce you to Denyc (denise Poole)
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started early. I grew up as a performing artist, and always wanted to be an entrepreneur. My mom even saved a notebook from when I was 9 and I wrote that one day I wanted to have my own business. It took a lot for me to get where I am today, and sometimes I still wonder exactly where that is. I’ve been through hard times, lows, my dark eras – but without those, I would not be here. Or would I? Perhaps things don’t have to be as difficult as we make them out to be.
I immigrated from Canada, worked my a** off, and built a company where I led the team as a dancer, and had a budding career in acting. That all changed around 2020 after a series of unfortunate events. I still run my company, Flaunt Entertainment, and the Flaunt GoGo Academy program but my creative outlet has been DJing. It’s a side quest that has been quite fun so far.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think anyone who moves to LA from a smaller city without their parent’s bank account is in for a bumpy road. My story was not an exception. I struggled. I won’t get too deep into it, but I will say that nothing has ever been handed to me here in LA. I’ve had to prove myself and earn everything I have with blood, sweat, and tears. From a 3 year battle with immigration to spine surgery, and moving 13 times… life is never dull when you’re following your dreams.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
People often say to me “Wow you do it all” – but truthfully I’m just an artist who longs to express myself in any way I can. And I choose the performing arts. I love to act, sing, dance, and write. One thing I am well known for is my company Flaunt Entertainment. I created Flaunt to give other performing artists a platform to do what they love. It’s a big community, and I am proud of all Flaunt encompasses.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Take the risk. Don’t look back. No one ever did anything great by playing it safe. If you don’t like where you’re at in life – change it. And change comes with not second-guessing yourself or even having a plan.
I risked it all to move to another country. I gave up financial security to pursue art as my career. I’ve gotten used to feeling safe in the unknown.
In the end, we have one life and it’s limited time. Just go for it, we don’t know what will happen in the future.
