Meet Danielle Buerli

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Buerli.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a multidisciplinary artist, designer, illustrator working and dreaming in Los Angeles. My creative practice ranges from commercial graphic design, Illustration to mixed media objects. My practice is a constant back and forth between the digital and tangible experience, looking for the best ways to create. I am endlessly curious and love to share beautiful things.

I studied Illustration Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. I loved exploring different mediums and exhibit ed my work for a while in galleries throughout the LA area. After working as a designer for a while in LA, I moved to Switzerland to study and work as a designer a little further. Missing the sunshine, I am currently back in LA freelancing for small brands and creating in the evening. My current after hours obsession is making and selling hand made sketchbooks under the name “SketchLibris”

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My curiosity and interests have lead me so many places that it has been hard to find what I want to define myself as. I have switched between a lot of different creative practices that I want to become an expert in, but imposter syndrome definitely looms over me.

Please tell us more about your art.
My primary business is offering art direction and marketing design services to small businesses and brands, but I would also consider my sketchbook shop very much apart of me as well. I think what is unique in the sketchbooks that I make is that I combine different paper color and thicknesses. I found when starting a sketchbook or journal the blank page intimidating. The different pages offer a prompt that might help you start and feel inspired in a different way from just a white page. Each sketchbook I make is unique in combination and color. I love that I might be a help to people practice to be creative.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I think when what you are making or putting out in the world feels authentic to you it is a major success. It is hard not to look at what other people doing well and try to do the same, but you find own way it has so much more value.
