Meet Christian Bulich in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Bulich.

Christian, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I remember seeing the Wizard of Oz with Judy Garland for the first time when I was a kid, back when we were still living in Uzbekistan, and I instantly fell in love with that movie. The world, the songs, the characters, everything was just so magical. Looking back I think that this movie actually started everything for me. It sparked something in me as a kid, which I subconsciously kept internalizing more and more. Later on, growing up, people like Paul Newman, Joaquin Phoenix and Daniel Day Lewis had an enormous impact on me and I slowly began realizing that this is something I want to do; I want to be an actor. At some point I just made it my ultimate goal in life and since then I’ve been pursuing this dream. Moving to Germany at a young age I was able to attend high school theatre classes and learn more about the art of acting. The more I learned and saw the more I loved it. I starred in different high school plays and acted in some stage plays outside of school, too. I have worked with different acting coaches throughout Germany and attended several workshops. Always on the pursuit to expand my knowledge and become better. When I turned 21 I decided to come up with a plan to be able to pursue my dream full time. I went on to study General Management for three years and as soon as I obtained my BFA degree I started saving up money. Three years ago I was able to make my move to Los Angeles. In my first two years out here I graduated from the New York Film Academy with a MFA degree in Acting for Film and was lucky to meet some of the most amazing and talented people in the industry, who I have been since collaborating with on different projects. Several of them have had very successful film festival runs all around the world, winning multiple awards including best actor awards for roles that I have portrayed. Currently I’m working on some upcoming projects, which are set to begin shooting by the end of this year. So far I can truly say that I feel blessed for having such great experiences on my way towards my dream and I can’t wait to see what else awaits me in the future.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think nothing comes easy in life. My journey definitely had its ups and downs. Broken relationships because of constantly moving around, being away from my family for very long periods of times or simply settling down in new places and trying to accept it as your new home even though you know you might have to leave again very soon are all things that make life sometimes a bit complicated. Also simply surviving as an actor in Hollywood can sometimes be a nightmare, too. Not having a secured income by the end of each month is something that can get to you. Especially, during months where you are not able to book any jobs. Here you always have to be smart about it and plan ahead of time. The financial aspect of this business can be very exhausting but at the end of the day as long as you love what you’re doing and even small successes can be enough for you to feel joy and happiness then it’s easy to stay motivated and keep on pushing even during times that might seem rather difficult.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m a 29 year old, LA based actor, born in Uzbekistan. Grew up in Germany, lived in France, UK and the US. I speak fluent German and Russian and intermediate Spanish and French. Theatre trained actor, starred in multiple stage plays and films. MFA in Acting for Film. Most successful project so far is a movie called ’64 Koufax, which I wrote, produced and starred in. I have received multiple best actor awards for it and the film was nominated for best short at several festivals. Other successful projects of mine are To Feel Human II, The Last One, Ariadne and Lark, which all had successful film festival runs with me being awarded best actor for some of them.

What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been a very enthusiastic person. I would find something I really enjoy doing and I would try to become as good as possible in it. Growing up I had a handful of friends but these guys are still some of my closest friends to this day. And back in our early days we already had the same interest. We would play soccer, go to the boxing gym to work out or watch movies nonstop. And we would always compete. Whether it was who could jump rope the longest or who could name the next line in the movie we were watching. It was a lot of fun! The moving around part throughout my life sort of made me a rather introverted person but the enthusiasm in me never disappeared. Up to this day I’m still trying to work as hard as possible to become better with each day. Even though I do not have the time any more to pursue all my favorite things in life but at least I’m able to pursue the one thing that I learned to love the most; acting.
