Meet Christen Lawrie of The Closet Trading Company, Children’s Orchard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christen Lawrie.

Christen Lawrie

Hi Christen, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a couple, we worked in the non-profit sector for 15 years. We saw an opportunity to become business owners and wanted to see a way to have a bigger positive impact in the world while running a business.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In business, it’s called the “ignorance tax.” We’ve had many hard lessons and expensive lessons on our 5 years in business.

We bought our first shop in 2019 and just a year later, we’re shut down for the pandemic.

We didn’t think we would make it, but we harder than we ever had and managed to hang on by a thread!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are committed to providing affordable access to designer and luxury items, as well as the natural positive environmental benefits of shopping resale.

We also support Saving Innocence with our business proceeds, in addition to providing an internship program for their graduates.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Always take the meeting!! You never know what connection could result in a fruitful relationship
