Meet Carmela Vargas of Riverside

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carmela Vargas

Hi Carmela, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey started back in 2022 I was in college for business and cosmetology. I was very confused on what I wanted to pursue but I knew I wanted to do something within business or beauty. Being the youngest out of 11 siblings and growing up in an immigrant household I knew I wanted to do something different. My parents soon retired during that time and I had no transportation to take me to cosmetology school and I was very depressed about the whole situation. I felt like my life was over or on pause. I always loved social media and always found myself using it as comfort or a way to escape my reality. My audience on social media would always ask me question about my makeup or beauty products and during the time I felt like my life was on pause I decided to film a makeup video. Not knowing that would be the start of my new career. I posted the video and it did really well so I decided to continue posting. Two months later I received my first paid partnership with an amazing brand which was LA Girl cosmetics. And the rest is history!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s definitely been a difficult road and I experienced a lot of imposter syndrome. It being such a new career in my life I didn’t know how to take it. My family didn’t always support me they thought it was a waste of time but then things started to change and I found myself making a living off of social media. I knew I had to stay consistent which was another different factor.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Now that social media has been my career for sometime I wanted to venture out into the beauty world even more. I decided to take a marketing job and see what really goes on behind the scenes. Now I do social media and marketing for a Beauty company. I not only work a 9-5 but I also have a platform on social media where I have gained a community of amazing supportive people and friends. I continue to work with amazing brands and with my knowledge of marketing i have learned how to build a business within my social media platforms. I have also had the wonderful opportunity to model for amazing brands in the beauty world, which is one of my greatest achievements. One thing that set me apart from everyone else is my dedication and hard work although it has been a difficult road I never forget the bigger picture and I’m not afraid to take leaps of faith.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
One thing that really helped me better in life was finding God and strengthening my faith. In dark times I know I can alway rely on him. It has also been a difficult journey but he always reminds me that I am meant to do this. He’s the reason why I have had amazing opportunities handed to me.
