Meet Becky Jennings of The Balance Method in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Jennings.

Becky, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am the founder of The Balance Method™. I am a personal trainer, nutrition coach, Beachbody coach and new mom! My mission isn’t to focus on the “perfect body” rather to focus on creating a positive relationship with yourself. I have found that unless you love yourself for who you are (flaws and all) you will never be happy with the physical results you get from training.

My background with food and exercise was not always pretty. At age 11 there was a pivotal moment that forced me to become aware of my body in relation to my peers. I noticed who was skinnier, who was bigger, and where I fit into the mix. When I started dancing, being the skinniest was the only thing on my mind. From then on I was obsessed with working out and for over the next eleven I years struggled with Anorexia, exercise bulimia (though I didn’t know it was called that at the time) and severe body dysmorphia.

After college, (still not fully recovered), I moved to New York City where the accessibility and allure of all the amazing restaurants and foods took a toll on my body. I allowed myself to get swept up in the excitement and I let the good food and amazing cocktails comfort me during this time of change and uncertainty. I gained over 30 pounds. I knew I had gained weight but after going to the doctor and having him read a number I had never seen in my life scared me. I hit the breaking point. For me yo-yo dieting and extreme exercise had to end forever.

In 2006 I started designing routines that worked for me at a gym in NYC and started to cook cleaner meals at home. My routines caught the attention of a few women at the gym and before I knew it I was working out with a group of ladies around me! In 2007 I moved to Los Angeles and dove head first into the entertainment industry. After two years the drive to help people workout hadn’t left me so I started testing the waters. In 2009 I began developing my personalized method of training and coaching and in January 2010, after a year of honing my craft, I launched The Balance Method™. For me The Balance Method™ is the most organic way to center myself and stop abusing myself through food and exercise.

My method seeks to reach balance in three major areas of life: Strength, Energy and Soul. Through personal training I was able to master these areas by teaching them to others consistently. I discovered how to create feminine strength, learned how to love food and have it love me back, and how to center my thoughts, soul, and mind. The “soul” was the hardest without a doubt. Personal training got me almost there but Beachbody coaching took it home! Working with women who shared my same struggles, fears and frustrations caused me to look deeper within. After years of study I am now able to take the painful lessons of my past to help those currently dealing with theirs. My obsession has transformed into a passion for helping others achieve their own goals and find their own balance.

Today, I coach women across the country on lessons of self-love from the comfort of my own home with a newborn by my side. I work with women to create healthy routines that serve them in all areas of their life not just the physical body. Together we have created amazing transformations that go deeper than the surface. I am so grateful to be on this journey with so many and I look forward to growing even more!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Ha! Definitely not! When I first started my personal training business I had 7 clients…and they were all in ONE bootcamp class that met 3x a week. That was it!! But I will say that with faith, determination and creativity I made it work. I ended my first year as a personal trainer with over 70 clients.

One word that defined my journey was HUSTLE! I was my only employee, driving all over Los Angeles and hosting boot camp after boot camp. I was not only my only employee I was also my PR representative. I called every fitness magazine and media outlet to start building my brand. Several took a chance on me. Within the first 2 years I was featured in Fitness Magazine, Shape Magazine and Glamour. I was also on a segment of American Ninja Warrior and on the TV show The Hollywood Hillbillies.

In the middle of all of this I shattered my right foot and thought my career was over. But I took “boot camp” to a whole new level and continued to teach over 20 classes a week on crutches and in a boot. The road to success is NEVER smooth! And I have learned to be open to new paths along that road. Now I live a life of freedom where I can work from anywhere and support women all over the country! It’s an amazing path and I couldn’t be more grateful!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business focus on finding balance in all areas of your life. My purpose in life is to courageously and confidently be the example of self-love so that I might inspire people to begin their journey of self-love. I do this by specializing in online accountability programs. Each month I run a live 21 day online group where women can be coached by me every day on healthy habit creation. Within these groups we have a daily lesson on habit creation and self-care as well as the tools of nutrition and fitness.

Additionally I have an online prenatal program called The Balanced Bump that focuses specifically on the emotional and physical health needs of pregnant women. My program includes 27 30-min trimester specific video workouts, 30days of mindset lessons & reflections specially geared around what we are emotionally going through: Confidence, body image, self-care, comments from others etc. I also have meal plans & more! My specialty as a trainer is program design so creating a prenatal series was a total joy. Each video was filmed at a different week of my own pregnancy so the variety and realness is there!

What sets me a part from others is the fact that I don’t chase the “perfect body.” When you work with me, you’ll learn more about what drives you, triggers you and motivates your daily actions. You’ll learn more about yourself than you thought was possible! By the end of our time together you’ll not only have the healthy results you were looking for but you’ll have created the foundation of self-love that will keep you going for years to come.

What were you like growing up?
I have always been incredibly social! I thrive off connection and have always been open to meeting new people and experiencing new things. I was independent from a young age. Always dreaming big and creating something new. Even at a young age I had a passion for helping others and wanted to create something that left a lasting impact on this planet.

I danced from middle school into college. I also loved running and group fitness classes. Traveling and exploring has always been something that fills me up!
