Meet Athena Bahri

Today we’d like to introduce you to Athena Bahri.

Hi Athena, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Born into Hollywood royalty, as the niece of Rita Hayworth and cousins with Ginger Rogers and Donna Reed, it seemed natural to follow the dancing/acting path. Despite a successful start, I wanted a quieter and more peaceful life. I didn’t want my personal life to add up to five divorces as my relatives’ had. I wanted love. I suppose that’s when my angels intervened. In a hit-and-run accident on the freeway, I rolled four times in my little convertible. This accident would change my life forever.

In 2018, after suffering from 16 years of chronic back pain, I underwent lumbar fusion surgery – a life-changing and most humbling experience. Six screws and two brackets were put into my spine to hold it together permanently. Let me tell you, I was not prepared for the mental, physical and spiritual energy it would require to heal. A huge percentage of back surgeries fail, so I had put the procedure off for years, hoping something new, something magical, would enter the medical field. Alas, it didn’t come and the stabbing ice pick in my back became intolerable. I couldn’t walk without excruciating pain, my patience for my family was gone, and my self-worth was at an all-time low. I simply could not go on like this; I had to have the surgery. My post-op care was to play a major part in my recovery. Having a family to support me and take care of me (and my children) was a massive help that I am so grateful for.

I followed the hospital regime, took loads of vitamins, ate as well as I could, and rested as much as possible, but none of this – not the drugs (which made me crazy and had side effects), the vitamins, the bedrest – was easing my pain. The ice pick was replaced with something I can’t even put into words. My jaw would rattle as I sobbed from pain I felt throughout my body like someone had broken me in half and put me back together with a rubber band.

At the height of my pain, I remember my husband screaming over my sobs, “You’re a Reiki master, for God’s sake! Do Reiki on yourself!” It was like a light switch. It hadn’t even occurred to me that Reiki would lower my pain levels; all the Reiki I’d ever performed was in a quiet and calm setting, nothing like this. And so I began to do a self-Reiki treatment, and it was amazing. I calmed down within minutes, my jaw stopped shaking, and I came back to full awareness of those in the room with me. The hospital offered to have a Reiki practitioner come in to provide more healing. I’ve mentioned earlier how my best friend brought her crystal singing bowls to my bedside and did a sound-healing session as well. I was open to everything because none of the drugs were helping. I was there for five days and it was only the beginning of my journey, a debilitating experience that took me months to recover from. I am not “cured”; I still have several “unhealthy discs”, but I am so grateful to say, even with a bit of hesitation, that I am now pain-free.

I took my power back with Reiki and energy healing tools. I grew new bone and a stronger back than ever before, created shower meditions, vision boards, raised my vibration, and opened my heart and soul to the wonders and gifts the universe offers so graciously once we know how to connect. My three children had the gift of a new mom full of life, fun, and energy! And I knew this gift had to be shared with the world. I started an Instagram page, that has now grown to over 250k followers organically. I wrote an award-winning book called “Raise Your Vibes! Energy Self-Healing for Everyone” and an oracle deck, “Raise Your Vibes Crystal Cards” to help guide others on their own healing journey. I’ve traveled across the world, teaching and speaking in wellness festivals.

I used this new gift of wellness to help loved ones overcome the chains of cancer and clients from around the world release grief, overcome anxiety, and raise their vibration. I am honored to share the gift of energy healing, grateful to channel my energy and tools into a space that can serve as a light to those living without hope, embarking on a spiritual path, and overcoming life’s struggles. I am honored to welcome all to the world of energy healing so that you too may take your health and well-being into your own hands, creating a life you love and can feel proud of!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life will always throw us curve balls, but now I am grateful every day, no matter the hardship because I live pain-free. I am living my purpose, I have taken my power back, and sharing this gift has given me the greatest joy. Perhaps the biggest struggle now is matching my desire to help others while overcoming the stigma of energy healing in a world run by pharmaceuticals that profit off our pain. I am living proof we can take our power back and the rewards far outweigh the cost. I’m not saying there is no use of Western medicine, of course there is and I’ve used it myself. But the combination of energy healing and medical advancements creates a beautiful and promising future for all of us if we just open up to the possibility.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Today I spend my time writing and healing. Our healing journey doesn’t end, there is no “magic pill” to end our suffering, only through a dedication to raise our vibes can we step beyond the bonds of pain- whether it be physical, emotional, or spiritual. Because Reiki created such amazing changes in my own life, I continue to share its’ blessing with in-person and distance healing sessions and teach this healing modality to others. I loved it so much that I went on to acquire three master levels within the Western Method, Japanese Method, and Crystal Reiki.

Having these three transformed my practice. They are a beautiful union of Universal life force energy together with Mother Nature’s gift of crystal energy for a profound healing experience for my clients and students. I share with anyone who is ready and pressure no one for anything they are not comfortable with. It is your healing journey, after all, you must trust what is right for you!

Writing Raise Your Vibes! and the Crystal Cards deck have been an enormous accomplishments I’m so proud of. Sharing these tools in person at the Mind Body Spirit Festival and the Los Angeles Conscious Living Expo have been such a gift I am so grateful to have experienced.

I keep this energy alive with Goddess Circles and healing in nature at Topanga Beach in Malibu every summer. It is amazing to bring women (and men!) together to heal in mother nature, sharing the gift of reiki energy.

What sets me apart from others? Perhaps it is my own unique past. I am my own guinea pig, healing myself first so I may help others. I am a mother of Reiki energy caring for each person as though they are a part of me too. Through love and vibration, I help others overcome what they thought wasn’t possible and I can do this because I have done it myself. If I can, so can you!

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I learned throughout my journey in healing is that no one is going to “fix” us. I was so dependent for so long on doctors and therapists I trusted wholeheartedly to heal me. But healing comes from within, only when we take our power back can we find the “cure” to our wellness. It is my mission now to empower others to do the same. I can help you with reiki, but only you can make the choice to overcome your personal obstacles in life.
