Meet Amina Seydi of Simboodesigns in Downtown Los Angeles (Fashion District)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amina Seydi.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I moved to LA about three years ago. I came down for the weekend with friends to shop and sightsee. I actually wanted to go to San Francisco but they talked me into coming to LA. While walking around Santee Alley, we decided to get pedicures.

As we were walking, I saw this beautiful African fabric flying in the wind at a store. Once closer, I thought wow I hope they have someone in there who sews, and Lord if you really love me, let him be from Senegal. Simply because Senegalese are known to be some of the top drapers and tailors in the world. I’ve traveled and lived abroad so I was really hoping for a miracle on this one.

What do you know, there was someone their sewing and he was from Senegal! I thought oh, I’m gonna get some clothes made immediately. However, when I saw him it was definitely love at first sight, it was instant. I felt like knew him. Well, things progressed pretty quick from there.

We went on one date that very next day which was Saturday. He explained to me on the date that he was a poor man, but if given the chance he’d take care of me till the day he died. Well, I decided to tell him the next day that I was going to stay and get to know him. We talked I told him I was staying he said great, we’re getting married at
6.30, I said yes!

And this is how my journey began in LA. That was four years ago when I met and married my best friend.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Has there been challenges yes, but I think that comes from learning a new environment. I’ve learned so much here, good and bad.

However, I feel you go through everything for a reason, there’s some lesson that you must take from it. I just choose to turn everything into a positive experience.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Simboodesigns story. Tell us more about the business.
Currently, myself and my husband own a retail store and clothing manufacturing company in the Fashion District in downtown LA. My Husband makes Haute Couture clothing. Haute couture is the creation of exclusive custom-fitted clothing. High end that’s totally constructed by hand from start to finish. Lucky me he can make everything!

I run the retail side, where we sell clothes, custom jewelry, pillows, fabric, incense, sage and body oils. Recently I started creating my own body products. Some of my products include Luxury Whipped Shea Buttas that can be used on hair, body, and face, turmeric eye creams, lip balm, lip gloss, and custom scented perfume Palm Buttas. All items are Vegan and completely organic.

Most people love to come to our establishment because they say we have great energy and of course because we can make and create everything you imagine. Honestly, it really feels good when something is created for a client and only they have the only one. It makes it so special. It’s really a great feeling when people love and appreciate your craft.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I believing in manifesting what you want. Say it, know it’s coming and believe. I don’t believe in luck but more of allowing the universe to guide you. Believing that you can do anything.
