Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Greene.
Hi Amber, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Becoming a model was very unexpected for others and myself. I honestly thought I’d be professional athlete or something. Back when I was younger, I was very insecure with my look and the color of my skin. Back then people judge me and made jokes about my color and ethnicity. I embraced it however it did take a toll, but I didn’t let it stop me I was relentless wanted to be better and show motivation to others despite the whispers. It helped me care less about what others said and thought. How I started as model, I went through a traumatic experience which altered my life. I became self-loathing, depressed and insecure; I saw modeling as an opportunity to gain back on what I have lost and take power thats was once taken. From my first photoshoot, I felt the need to mask my body from another person and I had a lot of anxiety, mix emotions until the photographer Matt (@matttyb) gave me words of encouragement and confidence. Which was a sigh of relief. Further on until this day, I think of the motivation that I once lost that was given back. Modeling has given me many opportunities to help me work on myself and help as many individuals as possible.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I can tell you it’s been an inviting but challenging journey. I’ve learned I am my own worst critic. I admit sometimes, I’m the one who brings myself down. The insecurities that have been embedded into me throughout my life have proved to be hurdles to overcome. It was difficult finding a place in the industry which meet my criteria to express the art I wanted to promote for my audience.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ll be studying to become a pediatric oncologist, a nurse who helps children that are terminally ill. What I’m most proud of is influencing people that were previously in my life. It brings me joy to be able to see that I played an important role in their lives to reach a goal they had. To know that I was able to help multiple people in a short amount of time is truly an amazing experience and opportunity. What sets me apart from others is my background experiences.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I grew up in a big household with a lot of siblings. I got introduced into a lot of things like Pokémon, anime, Greek mythology and sports. I’ve always been a lovey person, but also a dork who used a lot of dad jokes and puns in every conversation. I’ve had an old soul since I was a kid. Old school music has given a broader spectrum of everything I’ve learned In life. When I used to sing, majority of the songs I used to cover were all oldies like Donny Hathaway. He’s one of my all-time favorite jazz singers.
