Today we’d like to introduce you to Ali Shemirani.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Thank you for the opportunity to share my story. My journey started with a passion for helping people achieve one of the biggest milestones in their lives — homeownership. Coming from a background that taught me the value of hard work and community, I wanted to build a career that combined financial expertise with genuine human connection.
When I first entered the mortgage industry, I quickly realized that many clients — especially self-employed individuals, immigrants, and first-time buyers — were struggling to find loan programs that truly fit their situations. That motivated me to start Prima Funding Inc., a company focused on personalized mortgage solutions and transparency. Over the years, I’ve expanded my reach to multiple states, built strong partnerships with lenders, and guided hundreds of families and investors to close successfully on their homes.
What keeps me motivated today is seeing clients who thought they couldn’t qualify finally get the keys to their dream homes. I also love mentoring new loan officers and helping them grow both personally and professionally.
My story is really about perseverance, trust, and finding purpose in helping others reach their financial goals — one home at a time.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road — and honestly, I don’t think it’s supposed to be. Every meaningful journey comes with challenges, and mine was no exception.
When I first started in the mortgage industry, I faced a lot of obstacles — from navigating complex lending regulations to earning clients’ trust in a highly competitive market. Building a business from the ground up required long hours, constant learning, and the willingness to adapt to changes in the economy and housing market.
One of the biggest struggles was during times when interest rates shifted quickly or when new underwriting rules made deals more complicated. There were moments when transactions felt impossible to close, but I learned to stay calm, think creatively, and communicate transparently with clients and lenders to find a way forward.
Another challenge was balancing business growth with personal life — especially as a father. I wanted to be there for my son, Adrian, while also being fully present for my clients. It took time, discipline, and a lot of late nights, but those experiences taught me resilience and focus.
Looking back, every challenge helped me build stronger systems, deeper client relationships, and a better understanding of what it means to lead with integrity and empathy.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I’m the founder and mortgage advisor at Prima Funding Inc., an independent mortgage brokerage based in California. We specialize in helping clients find the right financing solutions to achieve their homeownership and investment goals — whether they’re first-time buyers, self-employed business owners, or seasoned real estate investors.
At Prima Funding, we focus on creative loan programs that go beyond traditional income verification — such as P&L-only loans, bank statement programs, DSCR loans for investors, VOE loans, and other Non-QM options. We also work with FHA, VA, and conventional products, giving clients access to hundreds of lenders and programs under one roof.
What truly sets us apart is our personalized approach. Every client’s financial story is different, and we take the time to understand their full picture — not just their credit score or tax return. My goal has always been to make the mortgage process clear, transparent, and stress-free, especially for clients who may feel overlooked or misunderstood by traditional banks.
I’m most proud of the trust and relationships we’ve built with clients and industry partners over the years. Most of our business comes from referrals, which says a lot about how we treat people. We don’t see clients as transactions — we see them as part of a growing community.
What I want readers to know is that Prima Funding is built on integrity, education, and results. Whether someone is buying their first home, refinancing for a better rate, or investing in property, we’re here to guide them every step of the way with honest advice and tailored options that truly fit their needs.
How do you think about happiness?
What truly makes me happy is seeing people achieve their goals — especially when they once thought it wasn’t possible. Every time a client gets the keys to their new home, or when I hear the excitement in their voice after an approval, it reminds me why I started this journey in the first place. Helping people build stability and create a future for their families is deeply rewarding.
I also find happiness in growth — both personal and professional. Whether it’s learning something new, improving a process, or mentoring a new loan officer, I love seeing progress and positive change.
On a personal level, spending time with my son, Adrian, is what brings me the most joy. No matter how busy life gets, those moments remind me of what truly matters — family, gratitude, and the simple things that keep us grounded.
At the end of the day, my happiness comes from helping others, staying inspired, and building something meaningful that lasts.
