Meet Abby Marie Oh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Marie Oh.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Abby Marie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I always knew I was a creative soul since I was little. I studied Fashion Design at FIDM and have worked for companies such as The North Face, True Religion and Target. My husband and I started a brand called Gravity LA in 2013 and once opened up a shop on La Brea next to Republique. We decided to put that chapter to an end in 2018 when we got pregnant with our little one. Since becoming a mom, I’ve been exploring different creative outlets that bring me joy. Mom life for me meant losing a lot of my creativity and time to raise my little one, so it was really important to me to find those creative outlets to take care of myself. I’ve always really enjoyed creating a solid brand identity and graphics such as logos and marketing collateral, as well as shooting lifestyle content photos of different products. I essentially love making things look pretty! So I took my 10+ years of design experience and started my own design service.

Has it been a smooth road?
Honestly, my clients have been pretty limited because being a stay at home, working mom, there’s only so much time that can be spent on promoting my services. My husband is also in grad school and working part-time so I guess learning how to compromise and juggle the time has been a challenge.

Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about your work?
I love seeing the beauty in things and helping my clients bring that beauty to life with my strong sense of how to be visually cohesive and aesthetic. I provide minimal, modern inspired graphic design services such as logos, packaging design, fashion design, as well as content/branding photography. I also love helping small businesses since I ran one for five years. I totally understand the struggle, hustle and challenges it encompasses and I love being able to help out with what I can. My many years working and designing for bigger fashion houses, as well as my own graphic tee brand, has shaped me with a good assortment of skills, especially more of an understanding of the production aspect of fashion design, so my work can be very intentional from start to finish.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love love love LA. I moved here in 2013 from the Bay Area after I graduated from FIDM in San Francisco and worked for The North Face for half a year. I always knew I was called to LA to pursue my career in Fashion and once I got the chance to go, I took it immediately and I came here with $12 in my pocket but a soul full of hope and motivation. LA is just so rich in life and opportunity. Every city and neighborhood has its own share of flair and adventures. There’s always something new to explore somewhere or revisiting your favorite places are always exciting.

What I like least… probably the traffic. Everyone knows to avoid the 405 during rush hour, haha.
