We’re looking forward to introducing you to Marquise Robinson. Check out our conversation below.
Marquise, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
My day is currently busy. Currently I am a full time sports coach and a full time doctoral student in educational leadership.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Marquise “MJ” Robinson, a coach, educator, and doctoral scholar building a Christian-based K–12 Youth Sports Academy. My journey—shaped by childhood surgeries, frequent moves, and the stability of faith and sports—drives my passion for youth development. With 20+ years of coaching, I blend academics, athletics, and Christ-centered character formation to help students thrive as scholars, athletes, and leaders. Our academy’s motto is: “Where faith leads, athletes rise, and character lasts a lifetime.”
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I was a quiet but determined kid who loved fishing with my grandparents, playing football and basketball, and dreaming big despite tough circumstances. I was resilient, curious, and faith-driven—someone who found peace in the outdoors and discipline in sports.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
“You are stronger than the pain you’re carrying, and none of it will go to waste. Every scar, every setback, every night you wondered ‘why me?’—God is shaping you for a purpose bigger than you can see right now. Hold on, because one day you’ll turn that struggle into strength for your family, your players, and the academy you’re building.”
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m committed to building the Christian-based K–12 Youth Sports Academy, no matter how long it takes. It’s more than a school—it’s a vision that unites academics, athletics, faith, and character into one system where young people can thrive. I believe God gave me this mission, and every step—coaching, studying, leading—has prepared me to bring it to life. Whether it takes years or decades, I won’t stop until it’s real.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes—I’ve had to do that most of my life. Growing up, I didn’t always get recognition for the battles I was fighting or the work I was putting in. But I learned that giving your best is about integrity, not applause. True character shows when you work hard even when no one is watching, because the reward isn’t the praise—it’s knowing you stayed faithful to the purpose God placed in you.
