Life & Work with Yaxaira Mcnear-echeverria of Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yaxaira Mcnear-echeverria

Hi Yaxaira, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I spent a while working as a theatrical costume designer, worked as a waitress, tried starting a small business that ultimately didn’t work out, and eventually found my way to working as a visual development and background artist in the animation industry through a series of seemingly small influences that spiraled into a whole new passion and career.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was a meandering road, there was a time in my life when I never thought I’d work in the animation industry, yet here I am. Looking back, it always felt serendipitous in a way, like hiding in plain sight. All it took was the commitment, dedication, and hard work to make it a reality.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I don’t think anything sets me apart quite yet, given that I haven’t worked in the animation industry for very long. But who knows, maybe I’ll find something totally outrageous and make that my “thing”.

Any big plans?
Apart from the persistent and never ending fear of unemployment (because that’s Hollywood, baby!) I’m planning on working on a series of personal projects with some fabulous friends of mine. All in good time . . .
