Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricky “FILMTOPIA” Acosta.

Hi Ricky “FILMTOPIA”, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
First and foremost, I want to give a huge shoutout to my mom, whose unwavering support has brought me to where I am today, my accomplishments are a direct result of her sacrifices. As a first-generation Latino-Asian American, I take pride in pursuing my passion in the entertainment industry, an area where my culture traditionally is underrepresented. But hey, we’re in Voyage LA now… Momma, we made it!

Growing up, I was always surrounded by movies, TV shows, and pop culture, which fueled my love for storytelling. Although I initially pursued a career in computer engineering, my love for movies and entertainment never wavered. After years of trial and error, I finally realized that following my heart and pursuing my passion for movies was the only way to achieve true happiness and fulfillment.

On January 14, 2021, I launched my YouTube channel, FILMTOPIA, which started as a small live streaming event for the Marvel show Wandavision. Now, I am grateful to be able to attend red-carpet events and interview the same people who make the art that I love so much.

Looking back, I’m proud of the journey I’ve taken to get to where I am today. Despite the challenges, I’ve never lost sight of what makes me happy, and I’m excited to continue pushing boundaries and making a lasting impact on the entertainment landscape. With a deep love for movies and storytelling embedded in my DNA, I’m just getting started on what promises to be an exciting journey ahead.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I’ve encountered many obstacles along my journey, both internal and external. It’s been a long and winding road filled with failures, rejections, and regrets. However, I’ve learned that my biggest impediment to success was often myself. When I got out of my own way and stopped standing in the way of my own potential, opportunities began to arise.

Standing out in a crowded field and avoiding being overlooked has always been a challenge for me. This struggle is common in the creative industry, and it can be disheartening. However, I find solace in knowing that I’m not alone in this. Many others face external factors that are outside of their control. To overcome this, I rely on practicing patience, blocking out outside noise, and improving my craft at every turn. Pursuing a creative career is a tough and unpredictable path, but it’s also rewarding.

One of the biggest challenges in today’s landscape is the need to adapt and evolve in an ever-changing industry. The permanence of social media and digital content has created a new path to success, and it requires staying nimble and open to new opportunities and styles while remaining true to your voice and vision. It’s like being a chef in a world where strawberry is all the craze, but the moment you present your strawberry dish, the world has moved on to blueberries. Adapting is necessary to survive.

Despite these challenges, I’m proud of the journey I’ve taken to get where I am today. Every obstacle has taught me valuable lessons and helped me grow stronger and more resilient. Now, as I continue to pursue my dreams and make my mark on the entertainment industry, I’m excited to see what the future holds.

This is where the fun begins… So as a content creator and aspiring filmmaker, my focus is on creating innovative and engaging videos that celebrate the magic of movies. Through various creative formats such as man-on-the-street interviews, red-carpet appearances, and other methods, I strive to showcase the beauty and power of the movie-loving community. What sets me apart from others is my unwavering dedication to being the voice of the people and revolutionizing the way we experience and enjoy movies. When you think of me, imagine a fusion of “Mr. Beast” and “Disney Plus,” which reflects my commitment to providing high-quality and entertaining content to my viewers (I know how crazy that comparison is, but that’s just how much confidence I have in what we’re building here. Living up to such high expectations, is a daily source of motivation).

What makes my work unique is my approach to storytelling, which centers around exploring the emotional connections that people have with movies rather than focusing solely on reviews and critical analysis. I’m most proud of the impact that my content has had on viewers and the relationships that I’ve built along the way. I’m excited to continue pushing boundaries and exploring new ways to bring people together through the power of movies.

Looking towards the future, I’m committed to being at the forefront of the evolving entertainment industry by bridging the gap between digital media and traditional Hollywood. Whether it’s through my YouTube channel, collaborations with other creators, or work with industry professionals, I’m constantly seeking new opportunities to make a lasting impact and change the way we think about movies and television. My ultimate goal is to be the first content creator to win an Oscar and to pave the way for the next generation of diverse and vibrant storytellers.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Absolutely! I think it’s important to acknowledge the role that others have played in my journey. While I’ve certainly accomplished a lot on my own, I wouldn’t be where I am today without the help and support of some amazing people in my life. From friends and family to mentors and supporters I’ve met along the way, I’ve been fortunate enough to find a group of people who believe in me and my vision.

As the saying goes, ‘If you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go together.’ I firmly believe that there’s strength in numbers and that it’s important to seek help when you need it. In fact, some of my biggest breakthroughs have come from someone simply taking a chance on me, presenting me with an opportunity and giving me the confidence that I needed to excel. Finally, I want to leave your readers with a quote that’s been a guiding light for me throughout my journey. As Stan Lee once said, ‘I used to be embarrassed because I was just a comic book writer while other people were building bridges or going on to medical careers. And then, I began to realize: entertainment is one of the most important things in people’s lives. Without it, they might go off the deep end. I feel that if you’re able to entertain, you’re doing a good thing.’ I truly believe in the power of entertainment to bring people together and make a positive impact in the world, and I’m excited to continue pursuing my passion and making a difference in the lives of others through my work.
