Life & Work with Paulina Kyutunyan of Glendale, California

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paulina Kyutunyan.

Hi Paulina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In 2020, there was a war that broke out in Armenia, and being Armenian, it hit a little too close to my heart. I partnered with a Psychological Center that helps children all across Armenia and they graciously opened their doors to over 800 children and their mothers who were displaced from the borders (where the war was happening), I simply started selling cookies as a fundraiser and got overhwelmingly great feedback. After raising $20,000 in two months to send to the psychologcal center, i decided to turn the cookies into a business; that’s called ‘a’nutter one’. I specialize in Gluten-Free, Vegan and Organic cookies that actually taste incredible!

Over the past 4 1/2 years, i’ve only expanded the menu and outreach! Operating as a bakery is definitely fun, but I wanted to play around and incorporate exclusive drops of different kinds of muffins; thus, ‘Muffin Like It’ was born!

I operate as a cottage foods bakery at the moment, but I’m planning on opening up a storefront in Glendale by the end of 2025!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning and operating a business is extremely difficult, especially because I started at the height of Covid. Besides that, I’ve had to sacrifice going to family functions or events with my friends because I had to prioritize my business. At the end of the day, I am my own boss and can make my own schedule, yes; however, my business is my baby and I have to make sure she’s taken care of and my customers are prioritized!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Creating sweets that use whole, organic ingredients, having gluten-free and vegan options, and catering to dietary needs definitely sets me apart from other bakeries. I, myself, have an allergy to gluten so I know how insanely hard it is to find something that is A, not cross-contaminated and B, actually tastes delicious. I’m harder on myself than others and if something is not up to par, it won’t be served or added to the menu solely because it’s ‘trending’.

My most popular sweets right now have to be the biscoff and white chocolate cookies, rocky road brownies, gluten free peanut butter cookies and the banana pudding!

I’m most proud of my drive. Never in a million years did I think I’d be excited to wake up at 3 am to bake cookies, but here we are!

Any big plans?
I’m planning on opening up a storefront in Glendale by the end of this year! I also have big plans for pop-ups in different cities/states!
