Life & Work with Openformvt * of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Openformvt *

OpenFormvt, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
OpenFormvt is a house music duo formed in June 2022 by Myles Rogers and Filip Kubica. The pair met in March 2022 when Filip moved into Myles’ apartment in Los Angeles, a connection initially made through mutual friends. They quickly bonded over their shared music tastes, eventually discovering that they both had extensive DJ backgrounds. Myles came from the urban club scene in Alabama, while Filip had previously been part of the dubstep and trap duo ‘Ben & Fil.’

After months of casually DJing together, they decided to combine their talents, launching OpenFormvt as a duo dedicated to house music. Their style blends elements of tech house and deep house, creating a sound that’s both energetic and atmospheric, perfect for clubs, festivals, and after-hours events.

OpenFormvt has released tracks such as “Bump Like,” which features a sample from Kelly Rowland’s “Bump Like This,” as well as other standout tracks like “Rain” and “Baby (radio edit).” Their goal is to continue pushing boundaries in the house music scene, performing at venues and festivals worldwide, and gaining recognition for their unique sound.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
On our journey as OpenFormvt, we’ve faced various challenges that have profoundly shaped our path. Balancing our distinct musical backgrounds was initially a hurdle, requiring us to invest countless hours in the studio to create a unique sound that resonates with our audience. Navigating the competitive music industry as a rising duo has been demanding, pushing us to refine our craft continually while remaining true to our artistic vision.

Financial challenges have been a significant obstacle, especially as an independent duo without management or label backing. From getting our songs mixed and mastered to covering travel and equipment costs, it’s been a pricey journey. Balancing these expenses while still having to pay rent is a constant struggle, but it’s one we continue to overcome through determination and passion for our music.

Networking played a crucial role in our journey. Breaking into the Los Angeles music scene, known for its vibrant talent pool, required us to immerse ourselves in the local community and beyond. We attended countless events, collaborated with other artists and creatives, and seized every opportunity to showcase our talent. Starting with any event that allowed us to perform, we went from playing disco and soul music at restaurants to DJing unpaid birthday parties and unannounced pop-up beach raves. Each experience helped us build our presence in the local music scene. Over time, we progressed to playing at clubs, after-hours raves, and eventually, festivals.

These opportunities, coupled with the relationships we’ve built, have shaped us as artists and allowed us to create and share the music we love. While the road hasn’t always been easy, it’s those early challenges that have made our journey with OpenFormvt rewarding and continue to drive our passion for the future.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We want our audience to feel fully immersed in the music. As a DJ and production duo, we specialize in tech-house, trap, and bass music, blending these genres to create high-energy sets that captivate and energize crowds. Our performances are designed to build a dynamic and engaging atmosphere, whether it’s in an intimate venue or a large-scale festival.

Whether through our original productions or live sets, we focus on delivering an experience that brings people together. By blending infectious beats with immersive soundscapes, our music is meant to move not just the body but the soul, leaving a lasting impact on the audience.

Since our official debut show in August 2023, where we supported Silver Panda at the 1720 Warehouse in DTLA, we’ve had the opportunity to headline a Halloween festival, lead a show in Venice for NoName, and perform at raves with some of the key players in L.A.’s underground scene like LicknDip and Underwar3. We’re also working alongside our fellow DJ friends within our collective, ‘Inhale Exhale,’ to curate events that push the boundaries of the electronic music scene in Los Angeles.

These milestones have been incredible for us as artists, and we’re proud of how quickly we’ve grown. What sets us apart is our dedication to creating a musical experience that’s more than just high-energy beats. We blend our different influences—whether it’s Myles’ urban club roots from Alabama or Filip’s background in progressive house and bass music from Slovakia—into something that feels fresh and unique. For us, it’s about pushing creative boundaries and always evolving, while staying true to our vision.

What are your plans for the future?
As we look to the future of OpenFormvt, 2025 is set to be a defining year for us. We’re excited to hit the road and expand our sound to new cities, bringing our energy and performances to fresh audiences across the U.S. It’s an opportunity for us to connect more intimately with fans and share the unique sound we’ve been crafting.

Alongside our live performances, we’re planning to release several new tracks that reflect our growth and evolving style. Our upcoming single, ‘Shake,’ is an electrifying, high-energy track designed to get people moving. Following ‘Shake,’ we’ll be releasing ‘Bounce It,’ which leans into a more melodic and lush sound, offering a different but complementary vibe to our catalog.

We’re also exploring ways to enhance our visual storytelling—not just for live performances, but also through our music videos and social media content. This is an area where we see a lot of potential to expand how we engage with our audience and bring them deeper into our world. While our main focus remains on refining our music, we’re excited to explore these creative avenues as we grow.

Looking further ahead, we’re seeking more international opportunities, from festivals to collaborations with global artists, to take OpenFormvt’s sound worldwide. Ultimately, our goal is to keep pushing creative boundaries, growing as artists, and leaving a lasting impact on the electronic music scene.
