Life & Work with Odd Army

Today we’d like to introduce you to Odd Army.

Odd Army

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We’ve been making music together for over ten years now, but the relationships in the band go back further than that. Cameron Kao (bass) and Mitchell Wright (drums) became friends during elementary school in the Bay Area and soon began jamming together. We started by playing almost exclusively Red Hot Chili Peppers covers, but we went off to separate high schools where we were introduced to Alec Luttrell (guitar, vocals) and Fidel Nuñez (vocals), and we began writing original music as a band after that. We all went to college along the central coast, where we’d play house shows almost every weekend and started to develop our sound. After graduating, we wanted to come down to LA to be closer to the action, and we’ve been living here since 2020.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
All things considered, I’d say it’s been a pretty smooth road. There have definitely been difficult times and challenges that we’ve faced for sure, but ultimately when you are making music with your friends the lows seem to pale in comparison to the highs. It’s all a part of the experience.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The sound of Odd Army is grounded in energetic riffs, a relentless rhythm section, and invigorating vocals that create a psychedelic landscape embedded with the subtle dance of human emotion. After releasing multiple self-produced singles/EPs, we paired up with artist services group Cage Riot and have seen our songs chart in the Top 30 across numerous college radio stations, including KTSW, WRRG, and WNSU. Most recently, we released a new song called “Horizon” on January 25th.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
We genuinely appreciate everyone who listens to our music and comes out to our shows. We know how hard it is to catch a break in the music industry, and we don’t take anything for granted. We’ve met some folks along the way that have vouched for us, and that support means the world.
