Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Light
Hi Lauren, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Quick sum-up: For about 10 years, I was touring full-time, performing over 1,000 shows at colleges, festivals, and venues across the country. In 2018, I started dabbling in sync music during breaks from the road. Fast forward to 2019, I co-founded a sync company with Alex Helton and Chelsey Coy called twoOHsix Music. When the pandemic hit in 2020 and all my shows were canceled, I pivoted completely to sync music and growing the business. Today, I’m fortunate to have both a successful artist career and a company with over 700 artists on our roster.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I wish it had been a smooth road, but I don’t think any artist can say that. Finding your way in this industry is incredibly challenging, and figuring out where you fit in is even harder. Touring was tough, especially jumping straight out of college with no money. I filled in for different bands, learned the ropes, and eventually tried to start my own band. That’s when I realized how expensive it was—the equipment, gas, lodging, and the costs of going into the studio to write and record new music. It all added up quickly. I vividly remember sitting in a parking lot of a music store, crying because I couldn’t even afford a mic cable for an upcoming show. The pressure was immense.
I had to take on a day job for a few years, hustling from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., then driving two hours to record in the studio until 2 a.m., only to drive home, catch a moment of sleep, and do it all over again while performing every night from Thursday to Saturday. Around 2015, I finally caught a break, started playing college shows, and began touring with proper funding. But just as my career was taking off, my personal life was falling apart—my dad, who was my biggest supporter, suffered a brain aneurysm and was in the ICU for six months before he passed away in 2017.
It felt like my career was soaring while my personal life was in the worst place it had ever been. If I’m honest, that’s one of the reasons I got into sync music. I needed to something new because nothing was the same, I needed something different with music to focus on, something to get excited about again because everything else felt so heavy and sad.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a singer and songwriter first and foremost, but I specialize in sync music. I have over 15 monikers, which allows me to explore a wide range of styles and genres. I’m incredibly proud of the collaborations and friendships I’ve built, which have led to the creation of hundreds of songs. Some of our notable placements include work with XBOX, Apple, Nike, Genesis, Volvo, Motorola, Subway, Wendy’s, Domino’s, and multiple Hulu and Netflix promo trailers, among others.
I also co-own a sync licensing agency called twoOHsix Music. With twoOHsix Music, I’m particularly proud of our custom campaigns for brands like Adidas and Billie Razors, Michael Kors, as well as our work on shows like All American, Baskin Robbins, The Crossover, and Teen Mom. We’ve built a roster of over 700 talented artists, which is something I’m really proud of. What sets me apart is my love of always digging to make more and more music, as well as having an incredible team to work with. It’s this drive to keep pushing for bigger and better things that really fuels me.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I absolutely love coffee! I’m also an organization junkie—I’m really into creating Airtable spreadsheets that I can code and automate systems with. On top of that, I’m passionate about design, so in my free time, you’ll probably find me watching YouTube tutorials or coding a new website, like our portal page at twoOHsix. I also have a deep love for traveling. I spend half the year in Italy with my boyfriend, who’s also a producer and musician, and the other half in the U.S. When we’re in Europe, we love to explore and always bring our portable music setup with us.
