Life & Work with $kilo

Today we’d like to introduce you to $kilo.

Hi $kilo, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Started from humble beginnings. Dealing with poverty and the projects. I’m originally from Washington, DC. Dealt with a lot growing up in the hood. But it made me stronger as a person. I never quit on wanting to be successful and do great things for myself and my fam.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t been smooth. But you don’t complain about it. You keep it pushing. Nobody cares what you go though honestly. So why dwell on it? It’s easy to stay down when pushed or kicked down. The hard part is getting back up. Like losing my sister and some of my homeboys. It took a lot to get over that. Still think about them. But you gotta learn how to use that as motivation for something better

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I love to write music. I used to only freestyle, but my homies rhejji renegade and HemiDaGoGetta got me in the studio. First time. I was terrible. But practice makes perfect. I’m more proud of how much better I e gotten while on this journey. And also for my album, I just recently dropped almost going gold. That’s fire. For Whom It May Concern almost gold. That’s crazy. At least I think so.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Everything is a risk when you’re trying to create something like a brand or just putting yourself out there to be criticized. Just ask yourself if you really wanna do this. If there’s hesitation, then that’s gonna more self-evaluation. If there’s no hesitation keep pushing.
