Life & Work with Khadi Lee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Khadi Lee.

Khadi Lee

Hi Khadi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been singing since I could speak and I realized at an early age that I have a passion for it. I learned to verbalize my feeling around the Age 11 – 12 and began writing some of my first songs. Getting out of my shell, I started singing more and allowing people to hear me as I realized the powers of attraction that music possesses. Around 15 – 16 years old, I started making cover videos to mainstream R&B/ pop music that landed me great recognition. At the start of my music career being so young, my focus was fame, so I tried everything from being in groups to singing competitions and agencies. I quickly found myself depressed and insecure from doing music for the wrong reasons. These paths lead me to some dark spaces after extreme criticisms, peer pressure, worldly influences and most of all ego. I ultimately took a step back from music needing to center my energy; over that time, I became a father to a beautiful baby girl who reunited my love for music and helped me realize that music is who I am! Showing me that my love for being a creative is what has helped shape some of my best moments. The way her face lights up when I sing to her reminds of the power I’ve been given.

In 2019, I came back on the scene stronger than ever as a solo artist ready to really put in the work! Since then, I have released a host of singles one being my debut titled “Prescription” which placed as 3rd on the 95.9fm WOVU top 20 Indie R&B/Pop songs, I’ve released 2 Ep’s 1 (Late Night Hour) debuting an advance listen with a interview on iHeart radios 106.1 as I was selected as their “Spot Light Artist”. At that point I began my CA journey, spending weeks at a time out here working on music where I created my single “All Night” and my latest Ep “Sneaky Link”. I have now officially moved to LA and I am living out my creative dreams. I just released my latest single “Dessert” 06/09/2023, which is my first single released since I moved to LA. I am currently grinding away on my next single, project and live shows.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The biggest struggle has been believing in myself. Sometimes it’s so easy to compare and allow yourself to become intimidated. I’m learning how to embrace and celebrate everything that makes me different.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Singer/songwriter R&B/Pop music.

What sets me apart from other artists is what connects us as people which is my heart. My music is honest and narrates where I am. I love that no matter where I am in life they’re always someone who can relate. The goal is that my music will lift ppl up when they need it.

What matters most to you?
Growth, I am always striving to be a better man today than I was yesterday.
