Life & Work with Justin Vibes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Vibes.

Hi Justin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I was a kid, my first instrument was the piano. I would play by ear different melodies that I would hear coming from the TV. My Mom saw that I had some type of musical talent, which led her to have me try different musical instruments with different music teachers. The instrument that stuck with me was the vibraphone. Fast forward, I moved to LA and been able to write songs for some of the biggest artists in the industry, producing tracks and including the vibraphone whenever I can. I also toured the world playing the vibraphone and built a social media presence.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It was not a smooth road. I performed in so many groups ranging from jazz, classical, pop, Latin, funk, r&b, and hip hop. At first, being a part of so many groups sounded like a great idea (and at the time, I enjoyed playing in all of those groups). However, I spread myself too thin, not making the income I would’ve preferred. Other times, I was overlooked because I played the vibraphone. It’s such a niched instrument meaning musicians/artists aren’t looking for or needing a vibraphone in their band or their songs. So opportunities were limited for me many times.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Currently, I am still songwriting and producing in the music industry. I will make tracks to send out and see who is interested in collaborating or writing songs. Alongside of that, I am a music influencer on social media. So I will make music content as well. I am most proud of believing in myself, taking the initiative and learning whatever I need to learn to advance my career via reading books, studying others, etc. I believe what sets me apart is including the vibraphone throughout my journey.

How do you define success?
Success is seeing any incremental progress to your goal. Even if you didn’t hit your target goals, it is still in the direction of success. The only time a person fails is when they give up.
