Today we’d like to introduce you to Jorvon Moss.
Hi Jorvon, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started art school in 2014. At some point art stopped feeling fun. I was always busy. I was isolated. I wanted a companion. So I set out to build one. I taught myself science and engineering so I could make a robot friend. I never stopped.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Money was the hardest part. School was already expensive. Robot parts were expensive. One wrong wire could destroy everything and set me back again. I learned to be patient. I learned to diagnose the failure. I tried again when I could afford another part.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I build robots. Mostly my own original designs. I sketch in 2D first to find the shape. Then I move to 3D in Fusion 360 and model the parts. Then I print the parts, assemble the robot, add electronics, and write the code.
I am known most for my wearable robot named Digit. I bring Digit to public events.
I am proud of how far I have come. I started knowing almost nothing. I did not go to school for engineering. I taught myself. I like to think my originality is what separates me. I do not just imagine new robots. I build them.
How do you define success?
Having a personal goal and achieving it is my definition of success weather its a big goal or a small one
