Life & Work with Jewel Zimmer of Laguna Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jewel Zimmer

Hi Jewel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
For as long as I can remember I’ve been an entrepreneur. I started my career as a fine-dining pastry chef and certified sommelier in California. After the birth of my daughter, and not being able to accommodate the kitchen shift, I launched my first functional food {cocoa} absolute, with Barneys New York, infusing single-origin chocolate with adaptogenic raw cacao extracts to intensify the physiological and therapeutic benefits of the fruit. The line soon gained an international following and inspired my work with other plants and botanicals. Simultaneously, I was experiencing paralyzing post-partum anxiety and was on a quest to find the root of my imbalance so I could live my life in a stong state of mind. I worked closely with an acupuncturist and orthomolecular psychiatrist and learned that my anxiety was stemming from an amino acid imbalance in my gut. Once I was healthy I dedicated my days to learning about healing through the power of plants. After years of research and development, and building close relationships with medical experts, I established Juna to create targeted plant-powered formulas for the modern world. At Juna, we formulate next-level supplements to optimize digestion, detoxification, sleep, and mood.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Without challenges and obstacles, there can be no growth. So yes, there have been many! Initially, It was proving to investors that people wanted alternative solutions to quick-fix pharmaceuticals and were interested in a proactive vs reactive approach to their health.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Aside from stepping into my Founder/CEO role at Juna by day and Mom by night, I prioritize a growth mindset constant education, physical exercise, time with other female founders, and daily meditation. Every year I choose something to study for my personal growth and to inform my work with Juna. In 2023 I studied at the world-renowned Amen Clinics and became a certified brain coach. This past year, I studied the Microbiome at Stanford Extensions bridging the gut/brain connection. Next year, I already have plans to deepen my studies with the quantum and Joe Dispenza.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success used to be money, titles, accolades, climbing my way “to the top”, and material wants that I believed defined me. But what I’ve learned along the way is that success is none of that. It’s about passion, perseverance ( I love a dopamine rush), authenticity, personal expression, trusting my intuition, making an impact within my communities, and pursuing my purpose.
