Life & Work with Erin VanSloten of South Bay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin VanSloten.

Hi Erin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I fell in love with DJing while studying at Michigan State University. I met my now boyfriend in a DJ booth, and he introduced me to a whole new world of music and live events. What began as a creative hobby quickly grew into a deep passion for creating unforgettable events.

After moving to Los Angeles in 2017, I discovered that my love for music aligned perfectly with my interest in health and wellness. I started DJing in gyms, bringing energy to workouts at F45, FitStop, Sanctuary Fitness, and John Reed Fitness, as well as at community wellness events across the city.

My work moved digital when I started making custom workout mixes for FitRadio, allowing me to reach trainers and fitness enthusiasts and studios all across the country.

My ability to create uplifting, high-energy sets soon caught the attention of bigger brands. I’ve since DJ’d for companies like BuzzFeed and Alo Yoga, and local South Bay collectives such as Indivisible Arts and Sunset Vibes. That momentum eventually led me to one of my biggest roles yet: becoming the in-stadium DJ for the Los Angeles Chargers, where I drive the game-day energy for thousands of fans.

Today, I continue to grow my presence in the Los Angeles music scene with my DJ duo, Day N Night, which I started with my boyfriend. Together, we bring our signature sound in house music to bars and nightclubs around the city.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being part of the nightlife scene doesn’t naturally promote a healthy lifestyle. I had to learn how to take care of my body while living such an unconventional schedule, being out until four in the morning, running on little sleep, and often surrounded by bad late-night food options. Finding balance took time and intention.

That’s a big part of why I love DJing in spaces that focus on health and wellness. Being in environments where I can inspire people to move their bodies, feel good, and live healthier lives is incredibly rewarding. Music can completely elevate a workout experience and make people excited to show up and give their best. I still love being out late and playing high-energy sets, but I’ve learned that it’s all about balance and taking care of myself along the way.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a South Bay based DJ, I specialize in creating high-energy, feel-good sets that bring people together—whether it’s in a stadium, a gym, or a nightclub. I’m best known for blending music and movement, especially in the health and wellness space, where I use music to help motivate and inspire people during workouts and events.

I also work for FitRadio, creating DJ mixes specifically designed to enhance workouts. I specialize in high-energy sets that match the rhythm and intensity of different exercises, from cardio to strength training. I love hearing from fitness studios across the country that they use my mixes to motivate their clients. One of my favorite parts of DJing is creating mixes with a purpose. I once made a mix for someone to listen to during their first marathon. It was perfectly timed to help them reach their finish goal time, and I like to think that my music played a small part in helping them cross the finish line.

Being the in-stadium DJ for the Los Angeles Chargers, has been one of the most exciting and rewarding parts of my career. There’s nothing like the energy of a packed stadium and knowing that your music helps set the tone for the entire game-day experience.

What I’m most proud of is that I’ve built a career that reflects both sides of who I am—the part that loves nightlife, energy, and entertainment, and the part that values wellness and balance. I think what sets me apart is that I bring the same passion and intensity to a nightclub set as I do to a morning workout class. No matter the environment, my goal is always to create a positive, uplifting experience that makes people feel good.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is the value of balance. When I first started DJing, I thought I had to say yes to every opportunity and be everywhere at once. Over time, I realized that taking care of myself is just as important as chasing my goals. Working in nightlife can be demanding, and it’s easy to burn out if you don’t make time for rest, healthy habits, and things that ground you outside of music. It’s taught me that success isn’t just about how busy you are, it’s about how aligned you feel with the life you’re building.

I’ve also had to learn that you are not everyone’s cup of tea. As a DJ, I can do my best to read the crowd, play the right songs, and create an amazing experience, but it is impossible to please everyone. I’ve realized that the same principle applies to life. You can put your energy and passion into what you do, stay true to yourself, and give your best effort, and that is enough.
