Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Garcia.
Hi Elizabeth, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
No personal life story is brief, but here are my cliff notes. Born on the east coast to Colombian immigrants, always had a passion for trying new things and dreaming up different careers I could take on. Explored and experimented with a ton of roles before I chose to pursue a college degree in Marketing. Had a few life-changing internships at MTV and L’Oreal and was a Vice President of my college Rutgers, Marketing & Management Society. Ended up working at Casio after college behind the scenes of some enjoyable product collaborations with G-Shock. Decided I was destined for more than the consumer-driven world and packed my bags and my rescue dog Salami and drove to Los Angeles to start a career in animal rights at PETA.
My role at PETA ignited my “world-changing passion,” where I played an active role in defining the term “vegan” among the social media generation to drive its popularity in mainstream culture. Since then, I have been on a mission to help educate millennials on better living practices sharing resources in English and Spanish on sustainability, creating less waste, and plant-based living. I also conceptualize revolutionary discussion topics to dissect with my co-host Laura Fama and podcast guests at the Conscious Kitchen Podcast.
Beyond sharing inspiration on the airwaves, one of my newest passions is learning how to heal modern ailments with the power of herbs as an apprentice and student of the School of the Sacred Wild.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No road is smooth. The hardest part of finding my true passion has been staying true to myself and not allowing friends, family, or romantic partners to get involved with my decision-making process. It’s hard work to live and speak your truth, but if you can understand what you want out of life, you have to push to make things align for yourself. We all have similar struggles, some of us, but if we can shut off the noise and listen to our guts, it will often lead us in the right direction. Trust yourself!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am most known for co-hosting and producing my podcast, the Conscious Kitchen. Podcasting as independent media is a labor of love. A lot of work goes into a one-hour episode, and we have over 50 episodes to date! Our topics are our most vital asset as we interview guests who inspire us to be better humans, provocateurs of our generation, and millennials who’ve opened doors in places others saw walls. No topic is off the table, and we’re always cooking up a conscious conversation.
I am proud to uplift the BIPOC community by adding our voices to the podcast airwaves. I am proud that my co-host and I curate guests with so much expertise to share with our listeners. Our stories must be highlighted so our community can heal, grow, and expand its knowledge. It’s an honor for our guests to trust us to tell their stories, and I look forward to another 50+ episodes.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Take those close to you with you. Success should be shared, and life doesn’t always have to be a competition. If we all thought about supporting our friends, family, and loved ones, we would see enough work, money, and opportunities. When your friend has a new project, support them! If you know someone looking for a videographer, drop your friend as a recommendation. Always be on the lookout for ways to help your community. If one of us succeeds, we all can.
