Today we’d like to introduce you to Dilan Kennedy.
Hi Dilan, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
January 2016 is the time I purchased my first Nikon DSLR camera. I believe taking photos has always been in me. Having memories of all the good times is something I love to treasure. My grandparents have photos from when they were young and seeing that just shows moments of growth. To be able to look back in time of so many moments just gives u that “WoW” of how precious life is when you’re living it. What got me to buy a camera was definitely my great friend Erin Wesley who’s an amazing artist. Just seeing her work with the cameras, she has inspired me to get more into photography. I started my first-year freelancing with friends first. Everything I learned was from YouTube, friends that are photographers, and of course the experience. So over time I just kept improving my craft, always looking for different ideas.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It’s been road bumps here and there. Only, because I be looking to change how my work looks. I want my work to be different from other photographers. To do so editing skills has to be great. Til this day I’m still learning more about editing. It’s so many different ways to create. That would be a challenge for me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m currently a part-time photographer. I do photoshoots, events, studio shoots, and weddings. I specialize in doing events and photoshoots. I’m most proud of how easy I can make taking photos at an event look. It gets fun with me after a few shots in. I say what sets me apart from others is the type of photos I take. I love to capture mostly the moments which is different than them just standing in front of the camera. It’s the interaction for me. Getting people in the moment.
What matters most to you? Why?
Being able to make my work not feel like work matters a lot for me. It eases the workload.
