Today we’d like to introduce you to Dalitso Collins
Dalitso, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. I was surrounded by music my entire life, as my mother was a singer for the church choir. I attended a prestigious institution in the Drakensberg Kwazulu-natal province in South Africa called the Drakensberg Boys Choir School. I attended this Choir school when I was 9 years old, having to move away from my family and attend boarding school. At the school, I learned everything about music, and I also got to travel the world singing and performing in front of thousands of people. I got to travel to Japan, Switzerland, Austria, and Germany, inspiring me to pursue music as a career. I am currently at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, one of the best music colleges in the world.
I recently met Jamie Foxx, who is very well-known in the music and film industry. I got to hang out with him, and he told me so many stories about him growing up, and, similarly, about going to music school too. He has given me so much advice, which I will treasure and use to help me with my career and life. I attended my first screening in 2022 and got to meet Toby Maguire, who is a character in the movie Babylon. The other screening I attended was Monkey Man staring Dev Patel in 2024 which was an incredible experience. I had the opportunity to attend movie premiers too and met the cast, such as Avatar: The Last Airbender: Kiawentiio, Gordon Cormier, Ian Ousley, Dallas Liu, and Elizabeth Yu in 2024, who we’re such incredible people. I Have been exposed to the industry through my brother, Jonathan Peter. I am looking forward to releasing music soon and collaborating with different artists. I’ve gotten to meet people I’ve looked up to in the industry, such as Jamie Foxx, and recently, I met Vanessa Hudgens at the WWE Monday Night Raw event with Netflix, and we got to talk for a while. I feel very blessed to be in these positions, and I will not take any of this for granted.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being away from home from such a young age wasn’t easy since I was moving across the country away from my family. It took time to adapt, but it was hard leaving everything you knew and starting a new life of music. Now, going to college, I’ve had to move across the world to the United States, and it is a lot different being here as a foreigner. It hasn’t been easy leaving my family once more, but I’ve had to quickly learn about how life is in the US as a black person, which is a lot different from life back home in South Africa. I haven’t let anything define me and stop me from achieving my dreams, and I’ll continue to learn more as time goes by.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Singer/Songwriter who loves making music and performing. I am proud that I got to tour the world, especially at such a young age. Being in boarding school at 9 years old definitely sets me apart from others, and getting to tour around the world and perform on stage in front of thousands of people at such a young age. I’m known on Snapchat for my vlogging stories and reaction videos, which I started in the middle of 2024. I grew to 38k Followers on it and received over 10 Million Views. I have also posted singing covers on TikTok and Instagram. My first cover was a song called In the Stars by Benson Boone, and I’ve made a few others, like Teenage Dirtbag by Wheetus and Naked by James Arthur, which received 130k views.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Jamie Foxx gave me the best advice: “There is no reason to fear anything because what’s on the other side of fear? Nothing.” This statement stuck with me because I realized that when you’re scared of something, not doing it will put you in the same position as if you had. In my case, I was afraid of hitting a punch machine in front of so many people after my shockingly bad first attempt. Still, in all seriousness, do not be scared to do anything because there’s nothing on the other side of fear, and failing means you just have to try again.
