Life & Work with Ani Harutyunyan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ani Harutyunyan.

Ani Harutyunyan

Hi Ani, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Art has been my passion since early childhood. From the age of four, I found comfort and happiness in expressing myself through drawing and painting, using various mediums such as pencils, oil paint, pens, etc. As I grew older, my love for art and the desire to explore different mediums led me to digital art. The transformative power of Photoshop fascinated me. My interest in photography blossomed after experimenting with photo editing and realizing how effectively it can convey a message. With Photoshop as my foundation, I began capturing moments through my phone camera, and after deciding that I wanted this as my career, I bought my first digital camera.

Like many others, I faced challenges in pursuing my artistic goals when the pandemic hit, particularly in photographing portraits. However, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise; I found inspiration in the everyday objects around me: makeup products, necklaces, drinking glasses, and much more.

This period immensely helped me in honing both my technical and creative skills. It was during this time that my journey as a photographer truly took off. I aspired to pursue my dreams in the brand photography industry, and that became my sole focus. Today, I continue to do what I love, and I continue to learn and expand. My journey from a childhood passion for art to becoming a photographer has always been driven by one thing: ‘Do what brings you joy.’ I am excited to see where this journey takes me next.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One significant challenge has been navigating pricing, particularly in the industry of brand photography. Understanding the business side of my passion, in addition to focusing on the creative aspects, has been crucial. Additionally, struggling with imposter syndrome has posed its own set of challenges along the way. But despite all those, I continue to stay positive, educate myself, and work on appreciating my worth.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in creating eye-catching visuals that effectively communicate the message and values of my clients’ brands. My work is known for its attention to every detail and a 3D-like look. I’m particularly proud of my progress and the opportunities I’ve had to collaborate with some of my favorite brands. To be transparent, though, this one is a bit difficult to answer since I struggle a lot with imposter syndrome; I constantly strive to do better and more.

What sets me apart from others is my dedication to making everything look perfect. My ultimate goal is for my clients to not just appreciate but fall in love with the imagery I create. My commitment to authenticity and my ability to connect with clients on a personal level also set me apart and help me build better business relationships.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something surprising that most people who know me or my work/brand might not know is that I have a deep passion for art history. I wanted to become an art history professor, but photography captured my heart, ultimately!
