Life & Work with Chaysen Beacham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chaysen Beacham.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I owned and operated a small media company out of Wilmington NC, doing local commercials and music videos for many years learning the ropes and attempting to build up my CV. Fortunately, I was able to land a fairly significant contract with the University of North Carolina Wilmington and with the help of my friend and DP Cory Messer, we managed to produce content that opened another door. That door being an international contract with the European Unions 7th Framework program. I was charged with the task of disseminating the research efforts of leading Ph.D’s from Belgium, Sweden, United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Again with the help of Cory Messer, I was able to deliver at the highest level. In 2017 I met Michael Soto “producer” a now close friend who at the time saw my work and asked if I’d be willing to come and work for him on a Discovery Channel show titled (Twin Turbos). My role was lower than I was used to being credited as the production coordinator but it proved to be educational in so many ways. I was humbled over the course of a year at the difference in level of production from my small town to Network television but I welcomed the experience.

Shortly after that, I did a few more short contract gigs for Networks and then I was contacted by Timothy Woodward Jr at Status Media Entertainment. It was here that I would get my first Co-Producer credit on a Feature Film titled (The Outsider) starring Trace Adkins, John Foo, Sean Patrick Flannery and Danny Trejo. This piece is still available on NETFLIX. Shortly after that, I was contacted to be a Consulting Producer on yet another international piece for ITV being shot here in the US. Which brings us to 2020 where I was contacted again by Tim at Status Media and Produced another feature film (The Call) Starring Lin Shaye, Tobin Bell, and Chester Rushing. That went into theaters October 31st “Halloween” of 2020 and is now available OnDemand and hope to see it on a major streaming platform soon as well. After that project, I focused on my personal IP and begin the pre-production process on a few projects with my friend and celebrity Dominic L. Santana to produce a few movies and even a show where we partnered with Morgan Creek.

However, COVID had different plans for our industry and the project was put on hold. I felt the effects of COVID-19 pretty hard, not seeing any work for quite a while and even contemplated changing industries for a bit in order to survive. However after many months, I was fortunate to land my current position at VICE Media Group assisting on two Documentaries and it has been a great change of pace and very much appreciated work during these trying times. I do hope to return to feature films sometime soon and I look forward to the days where COVID is a distant memory from all aspects and the world is able to heal emotionally, physically and economically. With that being said someone truly amazing came into my life during the trying times of Covid so personally, I think I am very blessed to be where I am, even if it means a season of rebuilding is ahead of me.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Before COVID-19 hit the entire world very hard. This is probably the largest hurdle I’ve had to face in my career. Much like most of the world I’d assume. I personally haven’t had anyone in my immediate family lose their life to the virus thank God but many people have had their share financial crisis’. As a producer in a creative industry, it’s our job to find workarounds, however that is usually accomplished with the security of a paying job. When the jobs ceased to exist, it really drains on the ability to be creative and make a way. I am a Christian so my faith is the source of my eternal optimism. I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t tested and pushed into a place of fear during the months and months of not working. I know many people have felt that exact same fear and insecurity I had of what the future holds. I’m reminded of the light at the end of my tunnel daily, constantly praying and building my relationship with Christ, being prayed for, and in the company of people who love and care for me. I am very blessed, and many people struggle to find even one person to lean on. So if you’re reading this and you don’t have someone to lean on, just know that Jesus is always there with open loving arms.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have found that over the years, I am a pretty decent writer and as a result, I am in the process of writing a series of books. The first book is written, 268 pages in its current phase. However, I need to revise, revise, revise, lol. I’d love to have them published once they are ready. I am also co-owner of a company called Bean Bottle and if you’re a coffee lover then check out www.beanbottle.co where we pride ourselves on being able to “See The Beauty In Every Pour”. It was founded by one of my closest friends Alex Croteau and his girlfriend Marina Settelmayer. Alex is one of the people I was referring to previously about helping me through my hardest times, he’s such an inspirational person by nature and such a blessing to call friends. His story is truly amazing (worth hearing).

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I had never personally invested in someone else’s passion project financially, however when my friend Cory Messer and his best friend Zebulon Griffin came out to LA they presented me with a project. Zeb is an amazingly talented writer and director and I could personally attest to Cory Messer’s ability as a director of photography. So when I read the script for (seven steps to inspire creative writing) by Zeb Griffin, I was like ummmm yes let’s do it. Ultimately the project came out amazingly, and I couldn’t be happier with the effort the two of them put in. From the hours perfecting the edit to custom scoring created yet again by Zeb, oh yeah did I mention he makes music and is a talented artist. Anyways all that to say that we definitely ran into our fair share of issues during and after production but it was all worth it. I look forward to working with the two of them again and can’t wait to see what they create in the near future. Be sure to check out their work.
